Top 10 Childrens shows I hate the most

10)  Back at the Barnyard: My husband is making me add this one. He thinks its stupid, has no plot, and is a waste of TV space. With voices like Wanda Sykes, it can have some crude humor.

But  I heard him laughing at it yesterday……..

9)  Lazy-Town: If anyone breaks out into song anymore, I’m going to bust the TV. The whole creepy guy that follows the girl around half the day, is way too freaky for me. He looks like he should be registered. You know what I mean.

8) The Upside Down Show: I cannot STAND this show. How in the world did we give these two guys a show on kids tv? If acting stupid for 30 min is the only requirement, I get it. The whole “remote” theory is totally something I want to argue with my 4 year old over. But if I can hit rewind and you would never exist, your onto something.

7) Wubbzy: Is wubbzy a boy or a girl?

6)  Oobie: I cant wait to teach my child that speaking in half sentences make sense to….someone else who speaks in half sentences. Its not even the hands that are creepy…if you have seen their friend Freda (the foot) you will get nice and weirded out permanently.

5) Caillou: He is the whiniest kid out there…and did I miss why he has NO hair? Not any at all?

4) Booh Bah:  What ARE these things? Mutated Marshmallows? Left over Teletubbie poops?

3) Yo Gabba Gabba: this import show can go back to the country from which it hailed from. I get that the bright colors keep kids attention, but its enough to make me feel like watching Barney is an Academy Award winning movie.

Does it remind anyone else of a cult?

2) Teletubbies: please tell me they have retired this show off of TV. Im not sure what is worse…the fact that Simon Cowell is the reason we see this crap on American television, or that they don’t speak a lick of real language with the characters. This is almost the worst children’s show on TV. I cant take you seriously anymore, Simon. You wouldn’t know crap if it showed up and you signed it.

WINNER OF WORST SHOW

Max and Ruby. Need I say more? Ruby is the biggest bossy B*otch on children’s television. And whats the deal with the no parents around? Maybe if they had parents around, ruby wouldn’t be treating Max like an invalid while she stands around being a bossy know-it-all all day.

Chocolate Dipped Waffles

As if waffles could not be any better when smothered in butter, syrup, peanut butter, or any number of combinations, here is a totally fun idea to get a slumber party or birthday party started off right.

Or Breakfast.

Chocolate isn’t so bad for breakfast…right??

At any rate, these waffles are super easy to create and make a fantastic snack for a round of kids…or an adult that wants to feel like a kid.

Chocolate Dipped Waffles

(inspired by Taste of Home Cookbook)

  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4cup butterscotch chips
  • 1/2 tsp shortening
  • 4 frozen waffles, toasted crisply
  • Sprinkles

Directions: Melt chips and shortening, stir until smooth. Cut each waffles into four wedges and dip point of each into the chocolate. Place on wax paper and garnish with sprinkles. Refrigerate until set.

Result?

Winner, Winner, Chocolate Dinner!

To make these more geared towards a holiday breakfast surprise, just grab some colored melts at the store and dip in Pink and White for Valentines Day, Blue and Purple for Easter, or Red, White, and Blue for the 4th of July!

We happened to have Chocolate chips and Valentines Day Sprinkles on hand, but there are numerous possibilities. And since the entire snack took under 15 minutes to create, you have plenty of time to mix it up.

Enjoy….

Heart-y and Healthy

If you haven’t noticed, every week I am bringing you a brand new recipe that includes pork; a hearty and healthy alternative to other meats on your dinner plate during the week.In my house Charlotte can spot a “not chicken” meal like 100 miles away, so the key to getting her to eat other meat, is to make it LOOK like Chicken.

Sad, right?

But at least I k now my challenges as a mother, embrace them, and make her eat it anyway.

So this week we decided to make an Orange Glazed Pork Roast, which was completely delicious. Ideally you want enough time to cook this on the grill, but because it’s about 9 degrees outside, I warmed up the oven instead in an altered version.

Orange Glazed Pork Roast (original recipe)

Ingredients

  • 6 pound pork loin roast
  • 1 tbsp of dry mustard
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper
  • 3 oz frozen orange juice from concentrate, thawed
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp steak sauce
  • 1 orange for garnish

Instructions

  • Rub Dry Mustard into roast and sprinkle with salt and pepper
  • Make a drip pan of aluminum foil about 1.5 inches deep and extending 3 inches on each side of roast; place under roast. Place on grill about 6 inches above low coals. Close grill and cook for 1.4 hours
  • Combine OJ, honey, and steak sauce and brush on roast. Grill an additional 20 minutes, basting with sauce. When internal temp reaches 145 degrees remove and let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Now since I did this in the oven, I just put my oven at 400degrees and cooked till complete, which took about an hour. I glazed approx 20 minutes before the roast was set to be done. I also used OJ rather than concentrate and it turned out nicely. I drizzled with the glaze before serving.

Here was tonight’s dinner:

3 Things you might not know about pork:

Power Up with Protein: Pork tenderloin packs big nutrients in every lean serving. A 3-ounce portion of tenderloin is an “excellent” source of protein, thiamin, vitamin B6, phosphorous and niacin and a “good” source of potassium, riboflavin and zinc – yet accounts for only 6 percent of the calories in a 2,000-calorie diet.3

Think Fresh, Think Nutrients: A new study shows that diets including fresh, lean pork provide higher calorie-adjusted amounts of important nutrients like protein, selenium, thiamin and vitamin B6 compared to diets not including pork.

Make it Lean, Mean and Medium-Rare: On average, the most common cuts of pork have 16 percent less total fat and 27 percent less saturated fat than 21 years ago. Today’s leaner pork can be enjoyed medium rare for optimal enjoyment. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced that pork can be safely cooked to 145 degrees Fahrenheit, followed by a three-minute rest time, resulting in juicy and tender pork that’s more delicious than ever.

Jelly Belly Bark

I can’t say that I love Jelly Beans.

I can’t even say that I like Jelly Beans.

But there is something about Jelly Bellys that make me grab a handful and then grab another handful and then grab another handful…… I am sure you have been there.

So today, instead of just eating the 3000 Jelly Beans Chris got Charlotte and I for Valentines Day, we made Jelly Belly Bark (inspired by a recipe we saw in a Taste of Home cookbook).

Look.

Almost too pretty to eat.

Almost.

And so incredibly easy that you can nearly let your child loose on creating it themselves!

All you need is three things:

  • white bark/candy coating, or white chocolate,
  • 2 cups Jelly Beans
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Instructions:

  • Just line your pan with foil and brush the foil with butter.
  • Melt your candy coating (I personally use almond bark) and spread into pan.
  • Sprinkle with Jelly Beans and let your bark set before breaking up into pieces.

Voila.

Surgery, Yummy, Goodness!

And while it would definitely be a perfect snack for Easter (um, hello, Jelly Beans are like a staple for Easter) it’s also perfect for anytime.

Like…well…now.

Lipstick! Lipstick! Lipstick!

I was going through my makeup and wanted to share some of my favorite lipsticks with everyone in case you are looking for something! You can see the order below, a little pigment on the paper, and then I wore them each to give you an idea. Please note that my office coloring may be a tad off from “real” life depending on the light coming through at the time of the photo.

My favorite two to wear is San Francisco by BUXOM for daytime and Espionage by Betty for Night (available at Sephora).

1) Espionage by Betty

2) Posy Pink by Avon

3) Romance by Laura Mercer

4) Craving by M.A.C.

5) San Francisco by Buxom

6) Milla’s Plum by L’oreal

7) Vivacious by BareMinerals

8 ) Perky by BareMinerals

Do you have a favorite color or brand you can share with me?

Bizarre and Amazing Side Tattoos

I personally have yet to gather up enough courage to ever get a tattoo. When I was about 19, I nearly got a frog tattooed on my shoulder. I am sure that would have looked spectacular with my wedding dress, right?

But lately I have been seeing so many of these side tattoos and I have to admit they are uber sexy. Nonetheless, I cant help but wonder what happens when you age out of this.

I personally do think women look sexier with them than men…although they look spectacular regardless.

Would you ever get a side tattoo or do you have one?

How to get laid on Valentines Day

Look at what arrived for me in the mail yesterday…..

Then my spouse brought home a 6 pack of gourmet cupcakes.

Oh, you only see four? That’s cause I ate 2 already.

And 3 petite fours and about 7 truffles.

I guess he means it when he says that he likes my figure just the way it is, which is good cause it’s going to be fluffing up this week.

For the record, my husband doesn’t need to buy me candy to get laid. But it sure does make a great snack after…
