3 Legged Cat: Graphic Photos

Today I became the owner of a disabled pet due to  Vaccination-Associated Fibrosarcomas (ie cancer due to Rabies Vaccination). Even with this amputation surgery, we have zero idea of his prognosis for the future, but everything I read isn’t overly positive.

We pray we bought some time for him…and for us.

I guess I wasn’t sure what to expect in total, like how I would feel when I saw him. I felt terrible. Like I did this to him. I gave him this vaccine, I brought him to the dr, I picked him up. He saw me in his cage and did a flip around immediately, snuggling up to Charlotte’s face.

All appears to be forgiven.

He can walk, if you can call it that, but its more like a jump hop. He tires in about 3 steps and lays down.

The stitches are rough.

Scary.

The red you see is bruising and swelling.

He was grateful to see us and to come home. I am keeping him confined to this office during the day and in my bedroom with me at night until the 14 days are up to get his stitches out.

The first thing he did when I opened his cage was hobble to the window to gaze out.

And he purred.

    Awww… bless his heart!

  3. Oh I feel horrible for him – yet at the same time you did try to buy him some time. I’ve always had cats and dogs, and when a pet is sick it’s just like part of the famiily.

I read the article you referred to. My granddog black lab just had surgery for a “fatty tumor” and it was right between his shoulder blades, the size of a baseball. Speaking with some friends, we were questioning perhaps it was because of the front line that Vets recommend; that’s where it’s applied. I’m also wondering, it’s the same place where she receives her rabies injections. You just don’t know if there’s a connection.

Give the kitty some hugs for me!

  12. Poor little guy. Praying for a fast recovery.

  13. Poor baby! But he obviously loves you to be purring, which says a lot about his stamina and his ability to adjust. :-) I think it’ll be fine, and I’m glad you’re giving him a chance!

  14. Jill says:

Oh Trisha…poor little buddy. SO GLAD he is home eating and purring a little. Ummmm, honestly? I give the doctor a C- in the execution of stitches. I know, I know, bottom line…his fur will cover it all up.

  15. Andrea H says:

Oh Trisha! How terrible for you all. =(

  16. Candy says:

Awww poor lil kitty! He looks happy to be home though. And don’t blame yourself you had no idea that this would happen after giving him the shot. *Hugs*

  17. erin says:

Poor kitty to go through that ordeal, but the purring must let you know you made a great choice. Hugs.
