3D Outside Art with your Child

Charlotte loves to draw and paint. What kid doesn’t, am I right? And I love to draw and paint too-even though I am just not that great at it. But no matter how many times I pick up a box of crayons, a new set of water colors, or some sharp tipped markers, the result is the same.

We sit at the table and draw a picture and color it in.

Yawn.

The other day I was thinking…there has to be something more to this that is free. Of course sometimes we buy canvases or shirts to paint on and that’s a ton of fun, but our craft stores are on the other side of town and that costs mommy some money every time we want to “upgrade” our art work.

So we put our thinking caps on and created some “at home, outside, 3D art ” that is easy for you to do too!

Supplies:

  • Glue
  • Big Paper to draw on
  • Crayons, Markers, or Paint for your scene
  • Sticks, flowers, leaves, grass or anything else you can find (that isn’t alive please) outside
  • Imagination

We first drew a very simple scene, then I used Elmers glue on the grass and tree areas, and Charlotte gathered and created a real life scene by adding leaves and grass in those areas.

And a few flowers (now dead there) in the sky.

While what we did was simple, you can easily get creative and create flower gardens, arrange sticks into little people, add berries to your tree for “apples” or fill up a beach with real sand!

Have fun~

~Trisha & Charlotte

PS keep this art away from your pets…they like to chew on the grass when you are not looking!

A great activity for children, and they also enjoy you doing it with them. Much more fun than JUST coloring.
