I know I did a big long post the other day at my overly expensive gymboree clothing, yadda yadda, but Ill tell you what. We saw this ad hanging on a poster in a store here in New Orleans and I about sh*t a brick.
Over. My. Dead. Body.
Not only would my child not be POSING for this for a poster (can we say ’stage’ mom taking any booking they can get?), but this is on the verge of being child pornography to me. This top is too, too much and she has lipstick on. That combined with this outfit, is oversexualizing this little girl.
I had to take a picture to show you this:

Am I just over-reacting or is this acceptable?

This is so not acceptable. I have two children, both girls, and they would so NOT be wearing something like this! As a Christian, I try not to judge but yikes. There are so many young girls (as young as 8 years old) in hospitals around the US and here in Canada because of eating disorders caused IN PART by social media today….every model is a 10 and skinny! Girls look at that, then themselves and do whatever they can to live up to what society deems is beauty. We need to show the girls in our lives that inner beauty, confidence, is so much more important. And little girls dressing and modelling like that just takes away from the message of inner beauty.
Thank you Trisha for bringing this to the attention of your readers! You do a fantastic job on this site:) I only joined recently. Am a fairly new mom blogger/review and love all the articles, tips, etc you give:)
Oh my gosh, I have boys and there is no way my daughter would be wearing anything close to that, You are not over reacting!
shannon’s last blog post..Remodeling 2008, Reflection of the Journey
Oh. Hell. No.
Oh my word. That is appalling! Maybe that’s why they charge so much for their clothes. They have to pay off all the lawyers on their legal team.
NOT cool! and this is why we have so many insecure young ladies out there! I cant believe that a parent would let their child model like this…it isnt flattering to the child and it is just WRONG! makes me sick to my stomach…
This is unacceptable. Let little girls be little girls. I am tired of seeing ads that have our girl babies depicted in adult situations or attire.
this is horrible. I’m not a prude by any stretch…it’s not even what she’s wearing as much as it is the way she is posed, and the makeup…let kids be kids for goodness sake. she should be running around on the playground, not striking a sexy pose. puhlease.
I have boys but if I had a girl NO FU$%ING WAY!!
OMG…over my dead body too!! I saw the picture before I read what you wrote and was like – WHAT THE HECK!?!?! My kids would never dress like that much less wear something like that for a photoshoot that some perve might get his hands on!!
Makes my skin crawl. What is that momma thinkin’!?!?!
Personally, I think this is the kind of stuff that fuels pedophiles. So sad… UNACCEPTABLE!
In a quick glance, it looked you just blacked out her top in the photo – like it wasn’t really a top but a censor thing they put over people’s eyes. You’ve GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!! What are they thinking??
It is really really sad when the fashion industry goes younger and younger with its sexualization. I know that there are moms and dads who buy into this kind of “fashion”, but I pray that they would realize what they are doing and strive to PROTECT their little girls AND their little boys!
HOLY SHITBALLS!!! SOMEBODY GET THAT LITTLE GIRL A TURTLE NECK….STAT!!! WTF ARE HER PARENTS THINKING, LETTING HER BE PERVE FODDER? THEY ARE GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET!
I don’t even know what she’s wearing? A headband as a shirt? Yeah not acceptable I wouldn’t allow it and I don’t like the make up at all.
ok if its not a suit then it is not acceptable at all for children heck even for a grown women to wear around.
Definetly not acceptable… how sad for this little girl that her parents allowed this!
How unbelievably sad that any parent is so focused on parading their child as a “model” that he/she would allow this type of exploitation.
The skirt is really cute. I don’t know why they would pair it with that “top.” It looks like a piece of tape to me. What’s next? Pasties for little girls? Yuck.
Not acceptable at all.
My child would never even be IN the house dressed like that
OMG! That is just…..disgusting!!! What kind of mother would let their child pose for this, let alone what mother would let their child wear it?! That is way over the top. I totally agree Over. My. Dead. Body!
I have a son but there is no way my daughter would be allowed to wear this outfit. Let our kids be little!
Are you serious. I think this ad will affect the store negatively more than it will positively. What brand is it? I want to make sure I never buy from them.
I am usually pretty liberal when it comes to this sort of thing but you are 100% correct- this child is over-sexualized the poster seems to exploit her. Two thumbs down!
I did a double take on the small image and was floored when I saw the larger image and your post! This really makes you think about our society and what “seems” to be acceptable for kids clothing nowadays. While the girls are wearing less and less in their younger years, boys wear baggy pants and shirts – wish they’d cover up their underwear though!
Are you kidding me??? I cannot believe that top!
Um. No. And a thousand times NO. What is scary is that someone finds that acceptable enough to create the ad, and someone else even finds it acceptable enough to put it up. Very, very sad.
Even IF this were a suit, its too small. But it wasnt a swimsuit store, it was a dress store. They had dresses, fancy shirts, silk PJs…NO suits, nothing like that. It was very specific. I do believe this was considered day wear, NOT a suit.
