I know I did a big long post the other day at my overly expensive gymboree clothing, yadda yadda, but Ill tell you what. We saw this ad hanging on a poster in a store here in New Orleans and I about sh*t a brick.
Over. My. Dead. Body.
Not only would my child not be POSING for this for a poster (can we say ‘stage’ mom taking any booking they can get?), but this is on the verge of being child pornography to me. This top is too, too much and she has lipstick on. That combined with this outfit, is oversexualizing this little girl.
I had to take a picture to show you this:

Am I just over-reacting or is this acceptable?

Not acceptable at all.
My child would never even be IN the house dressed like that
OMG! That is just…..disgusting!!! What kind of mother would let their child pose for this, let alone what mother would let their child wear it?! That is way over the top. I totally agree Over. My. Dead. Body!
I have a son but there is no way my daughter would be allowed to wear this outfit. Let our kids be little!
Are you serious. I think this ad will affect the store negatively more than it will positively. What brand is it? I want to make sure I never buy from them.
I am usually pretty liberal when it comes to this sort of thing but you are 100% correct- this child is over-sexualized the poster seems to exploit her. Two thumbs down!
I did a double take on the small image and was floored when I saw the larger image and your post! This really makes you think about our society and what “seems” to be acceptable for kids clothing nowadays. While the girls are wearing less and less in their younger years, boys wear baggy pants and shirts – wish they’d cover up their underwear though!
Are you kidding me??? I cannot believe that top!
Um. No. And a thousand times NO. What is scary is that someone finds that acceptable enough to create the ad, and someone else even finds it acceptable enough to put it up. Very, very sad.
Even IF this were a suit, its too small. But it wasnt a swimsuit store, it was a dress store. They had dresses, fancy shirts, silk PJs…NO suits, nothing like that. It was very specific. I do believe this was considered day wear, NOT a suit.
the exact words of my husband, ‘ew, that’s gross’
OK wait. dont kill me but is that top a bathing suit with a wrap for the bottom to cover it? just wondering since I live in fl I see a lot of this well i’m NOT for the lipstick but I’d let me daughter wear that to the beach to cover her bumm as we walked around.
There’s no way I’d even allow clothes like that in my house. It’s disgusting that any parent allows that, and that someone is using it to sell clothes. I’m totally appalled.
There is no way in this world!
I would have never worn that when I was in my rebellious-college- pre-baby-body days. And there is absolutely no way I would ever let my daughter wear it! EVER!
That is not an ok top for anyone, ever! Well, ok it would probably be pretty funny on my cat for halloween. He could go as an example of hollywood’s worst dressed, or what not to wear! The only thing worse than this picture, is those child glitz pageants! Disgusting! Oh, and is it just me or is her hair highlighted with blonde stripes?
Is that a bathing suit top? Even so, it’s way too skimpy for a little girl!
My jaw dropped! Came through my reader and was just appalled that they even hung it up. Little girls and boys are meant to be kids and care free. I agree with Tena about most adults wanting to be a kid again.. HELL I’d like to go back, but I live through and for my kids.
Wow, that’s sad. What kind of parent would allow their child to wear something like that. There is no way my child would ever be allowed to wear something like that.
Somewhere out there I sense a parent that needs their ass kicked. No freain way this is in ANY way appropriate! What brand is this? I’ll be happy to add it to my NEVER ever buy from list.
Can you say “boycot” boys and girls?
