Announcement Roundups

annoucne

Just a few things I wanted to announce in one post:

1) We are a tester for a new site and the first 10 users that click through will be granted automatic access to the site (other people will be put on a waiting list). There is a tutorial on how to put together your profile and create moments on the home page so I’m sure your users will find the whole process very inviting and fun.

http://www.thismoment.com/check_beta_key?key=momdot

They would love to hear your feedback, so please do not use the link unless you are going to come back and provide that.

2) It’s here! TurboTax® ’s second annual nationwide search for America ’s Cutest Last-Minute Tax Deduction launched today. Parents or legal guardians can go to www.CutestTaxDeduction.com and submit a photo of their newest “last-minute” tax deduction. One lucky baby, born between Dec. 1-31, 2008 , will win a United States savings bond worth $5,000 (up to $10,000 upon maturity).   In addition to the possible tax credits and deductions a new child may bring, who would have thought a December baby could be worth so much?

3) Angie has a new site called Buy By Mom and they are looking for mom products and businesses to feature. Please contact her!

4) A New Blogger to MomDot wants you to check out her site! Go here to meet Leah

5) Join  MEMES

6) The first Dyson Divas were picked and signups for Round 2 are on. You may copy over your original entry, but you must resign up to be considered. Although we were not announcing it before, I have been given permission to now disclose that you will receive a vacuum as a thank you for participating. We didn’t public announce it, other then stating there would be perks, because we didn’t want people signing up just for a free vacuum, but rather for an honest review. But please know that you will be thanked for your time in participating.

7) Take the time to go to HERE and vote for congress to relook at the CPSIA. law, otherwise known as the worst law in history. Right now, we need 9 more votes to make it as #5 on the top #10 issues to be presented to Obama when he comes into office. VERY IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE, as a consumer AND as a business owner.

Ok, thats it!

  1. I just signed up at ThisMoment…It looks really neat. I’ll go back and spend more time this weekend on it and upload some moments. :)

Here’s an update on the CPSIA laws: http://www.etsy.com/storque/craftivism/cpsia-exemption-announcement-resources-action-items-3188/

There have been some very encouraging exemptions listed for those of us who love to make and buy handmade kiddie stuffs.

I think the new laws (hopefully NOT) going into effect are absolutely ridiculous!

Since MomDot’s launch, I’ve seen a ton of kid boutiques and items I’d love to try. I’ve been blown away (in a good way) with the ones I’ve already tried.

I’d hate for so much governmental interference to put so many good businesses and awesome products out of business.

  4. Trish says:

I signed up for thismoment.com, but I’m not sure how I like it. It does seem like a little of everything all thrown together. I couldn’t figure out how to add a picture to my moment, but I could put in lots of other people’s pictures. I do like that you can decide how private you want your moment to be, but I got a little creeped out seeing how available everyone’s pictures of their kids were.

I do think that it would be very popular with lots of people, but I don’t think it’s something for me. I just barely got the hang of twitter! :)

I signed up for thismoment.com. So far it seems like a great place to share those moments in your life. It’s really a bit of everything (twitter, myspace, etc) thrown together like others have said. I like it though. I can’t hardly keep track of all the new sites. But this seems like an all in one.

I signed up, but at the moment it seems to be running very slow for me, I can’t even get my profile picture to change. About to re-boot and see if it is on my end???

  7. Alisha says:

I signed up with this moment. To tell you the truth I really don’t know how much I would really use it. I have a hard enough time getting my pictures and thoughts put onto my blog. However, the site did seem really easy and an easy way to document moments. The hard thing is telling family and friends, “hey come over to this new site to check out what the fam is up to.” I mean first it was myspace, then facebook, then blogging, and now this site. I just feel bad sending them in all different directions. Personally I think I am going to stick with blogging for now. Who knows in the future I may get ambitious and do both. As for others who haven’t already signed up on all other realms of the internet this would be a easy and fun way to share your moments.

I just went to This Moment, and I thought it was really neat. I’ll have to see how it fits in with all my other online stuff, though.

I really liked the colored bar at the top that is color coded for what type of moment it is…that seemed good to me, and also how you could all other people’s pictures and links.

  9. Jen says:

Crap! Here I am gathering materials for the Etsy shop I’m about to open and I read about the CPSIA junk! I’m all freaked out and annoyed now. :(

Jen’s last blog post..Just call me Oscar.

  10. I joined thismoment.com It seems pretty easy..I gotta go back later and see if you can then just email and/or how to find other people. Is it something that you follow people like twitter or something…to share your moments? It is a neat way to share if you have many pictures at once you would like to share.

  12. Texan Mama says:

I just went to the thismoment.com website and created a moment. Well, I tried to anyway. I filled in all the information, then realized I messed something up and wanted to change it, so I clicked the back button. Of course, it took me ALL the way back to the beginning. I didn’t want to start all over, so I just quit.

I guess this feature is nice for people who want to create an online scrapbook of memories. It would be great for my mother-in-law, who always wants to write down those little cute “kid-isms” that my kids do. And, it doesn’t require colorful paper, stickers, paper punches, or scissors; it only requires a computer!

I think, for me, I probably wouldn’t use it, because I use my blog to keep track of my memories. Or, I put it in a physical scrapbook. But, I like crafty stuff like that. However, thismoment.com does provide a place for people to express their creative side in a way that’s really user friendly and also FREE.
