School starts tomorrow and whew! It has been one fast summer and Charlotte is not overly excited about trading her lax 9pm bedtime for a strict 8pm bedtime, but if today’s indication of sleeping in past 9 was any indication, she is gonna need it!
(Update! School was today…here are Charlotte going out the door pics! 3rd grade, wow!)
Going to bed around here is totally full of routine. It starts with switching the TV off at 7pm and the entire family heading upstairs. Generally we put on some family television, dad might play some last minute games with the kids to wear them down (I usually nab this time to pick up the house) and then off for baths, teeth brushing, book and bed. The one thing my kids cannot do is go to bed without that routine. If we end up at my in laws for a weekend and skip the bath or downtime, all heck breaks loose in Phoenyx’s world. It’s like he never realizes it IS bedtime, even if he is tired.
Now Charlotte is easy.
She is 8 years old and at an age I can say “go brush your teeth” and even if it takes her 15 long minutes to get around to it (master staller here), it gets done. Phoenyx on the other hand takes a WWF move to just get near him lately with a toothbrush..you parents know what I am talking about. I am looking forward to him getting older and realizing the actual importance of cleaning up before bedtime!
Charlotte, having just had a dental checkup this past Tuesday, understands that brushing your teeth is something mom doesn’t play around with in this house. She ended her check up with yet another cavity free visit, which means she is 8 years old still with zero cavities. I could not be more proud of how she takes care of her teeth! While at the dentist this week I noticed this book in the basket and cracked up. We used to tell Charlotte she had to get the “sugar bugs” out of her teeth when she was little. A parent I used to sit for told the same thing to their kids and it stuck with me.
I was delighted to see a book existed with the same idea.
Keeping your teeth clean is one of the things I really stress in this house. Which leads me to this.
Bed Time with Arm & Hammer
Last night I asked Charlotte to test out Tooth Tunes ™ and Sensitive Toothpaste, from the makers of Orajel ™.
- Sensitive Toothpaste, from the makers of Orajel ™: ARM & HAMMER™ Sensitive toothpaste, from the makers of Orajel™, provides maximum pain relief in a low abrasion formula that is gentler on enamel.
- Tooth Tunes ™ : Tooth Tunes™ pumps two minutes of your favorite music directly through your teeth…straight to your head! When brushing sounds this good, it rocks!
She had no problems jumping right in…especially since her Tooth Tunes ™ toothbrush played the crooning sounds of One Direction right before bed! I really like toothbrushes that play music as its an ingenious little way to make sure they are brushing LONG enough (something so many of us have problems doing).
Little brother was jealous of course.
Toothbrush: She really loves it! She has taken it with her on a sleep over and used it every day at home since we got it!
Toothpaste: It wasn’t her favorite flavor at all.
She threw me a couple of looks while brushing. I think there are reasons they invented “kids flavor” toothpastes.
Moms thoughts: I have sensitive teeth so the toothpaste is a better fit for me. Initially it has a refreshing taste, but then does turn to a weird taste after you are brushing for a few minutes. However after a spit and rinse, my teeth feel super clean. I haven’t been using it long enough to let you know if it helps with my sensitive teeth yet.
(Psst…that’s mommy’s favorite part of the day!)
