August Feature Blogger: Tip Junkie

For our next Feature Blogger, please welcome Laurie from Tip Junkie to the MomDot family!

1. Congrats on being a MomDot Feature Blogger! Why don’t you start by introducing yourself to our readers!

 Hi Ladies!  My name is Laurie and I’m a SAHM with 3 boys living in Texas.  I have become more “girly” with each boy.  I have a passion for creating and promoting beautiful things.  My mother has countless talents and excels in painting, sewing, flower arranging, etc. However, while I was growing up, she wasn’t able to sell her products or use those skills to bring in a much needed income.  I think that has been a driving force in my life to find ways to help women promote their amazing ideas, products, as well as inspire creativity.

 2. How did you arrive on the blogosphere? What got you interested in blogging?

   I had just launched my website www.ExecutiveHomemaker.com and I was having a very difficult time promoting it and getting the word out.  I viewed Executive Homemaker as my way to help and reach out to other women through my ideas and free files.  My friend Katri printed out a blog post and brought it to our girls night.  She read it out loud and I was immediately hooked!  I was up and running with my own blog almost immediately.  One month later I started Tip Junkie because I was constantly being inspired by other bloggers.  I needed a place to share those ideas!

  3. Can you give the MomDot readers a “sneak peek” into what’s coming up next for your blog? Any new events, giveaways, interviews, etc.?
  I have just started a new feature that I’m really excited about, Talk To Me Tuesday.  It’s where I’ll interview bloggers and help the get the scoop on how to market your blog, make money from your blog, as well as other tips from the pro’s. Currently, Thursday is my favorite day of the week.  Teach Me Thursday is where I feature tutorials in several categories in one post:  cooking, design, entertaining, for the kids, gift ideas, scrap crafts, and sewing.  Learn something new every Thursday.

 I have so many dreams for Tip Junkie.  She’s an ambitious girl who has found her passion for everything beautiful and creative.  In October I’ll do a Blogtique Challenge again where I feature Mom-prenuers just in time for Christmas shopping.  Buy from bloggers this year! ;)

 4. I loved your blog on chore charts! What is your most dreaded chore?

  Great question!  I dread scrubbing the toilets. With 3 boys you can understand why. {{giggle}}

 5. Do you have any “tips” for new bloggers like myself?

 Girl, I can hook you up with lots of tips!  I have a blogging tips section for all of us.  Even after blogging for a year, I still learn something new every couple weeks and try to post it when I learn it.  My favorite blogging tip post is this one:  it teaches you how to add your e-mail link in a post, how to add a button with a link to a sidebar, how to make a word a link, and how to personalize your comment window.  All basic skills you need to know.

 6. Tip Junkie’s “20 Day Birthday Giveaway” just ended and it looks like you got a great response from your readers! How do you promote your contests?

 Usually, I e-mail a couple giveaway sites like Prizey, From Dates to Diapers, and an Island Life to help me promote it.  But there was too much information to give them.  So I asked Tip Junkie readers to help me promote it and they came through.  Thanks Ladies!

7. Do you have a favorite “tip” given to you by your readers?

 I love it when I get submitted tips.  Not only because it saves me tons of time but also because they are so diverse and different from what I would have picked to share.  The blog world is too big for me to find everything myself – so I really rely on Tip Junkie readers to help me out and send in their fabulous ideas.  They never disappoint.

 I have tons of favorites! I’m blow away every week by someone.  However, recently on a Wednesday in June I was really impressed.  Tania made a stage for her little girl, which is to die for.  Also, in that post Sarah made a wall window for her children’s art that’s unique and beautiful, and Kim spray painted a bunch of plates to make a stunning wall.  I’m a spray painter myself so I really loved it.

 8.  What are some of your favorite blog posts that you would like to share with MomDot readers?
