Aurora Photo Editing Software Review (Closed)

Posted on KarenC on June 2, 2009 // 25 Comments //

Meet Lights Crafts:

Light Crafts is a company that believes passionately in the power of digital photography. We believe everyone’s photos should look great, and that getting them to look that way should be simple.

Light Crafts knows that photo management — the process of importing, organizing, editing, storing and sharing, and should be intuitive and powerful.

Introducing Aurora:

Light Crafts just launched a very unique photo editing and management software called Aurora.

This software enables users in:

  • Visual photo editing: Unique relight tool, straighten, adjust color strength and warmth, crop, zoom and adjust red-eye in a simple, intuitive and visual way.
  • Organizing and viewing of photos: Import photos from your camera or computer, re-arrange and re-name them, then tag and rate favorites for easy viewing and retrieval.
  • Sharing and publishing: Email, print, and connect directly to photo sharing, social networking and accounts from within Aurora, making it easy to share select photos online on sites like Flickr and Facebook.
  • Online back-up: Store photos safely online, with an online back-up plan. Mom Approved!

Taking perfect pictures can be a daunting task, you always want the perfect result. It’s nice to have a quick fix for poor lighting and red eye.

I recently had the opportunity to try Aurora and was pleasantly surprised at its ease of use. The best editing options for me were the Red Eye remover and the Relighting option.

Red Eye: I often have issues with my boys’ having red eyes in pictures. Using Aurora, I selected a photo from my files (uploaded in Aurora), clicked on Edit, and then hit Red Eye. The Aurora program automatically detects the red eye in the picture and offers you a fixed image. It’s quick and easy!

Relighting: Unless you’re a professional, you rarely have perfect lighting of your little subject. Aurora offers a magical feature called Relight or Auto Relight. It essentially “turns on” the light in your photo. It’s like instant sunshine.

Mom Improvements:

Overall the software is easy to use and intelligent with its unique automatic fixes. I wish the program had the ability to add borders and text to further personalize pictures similar to other photo editing programs.

Buy It:

Aurora is available for purchase at the Lightcrafts store for $19.95 (regularly $39.95).

I have a lot of pictures that are too dark that I could use the relight for. I would like to see if it’s easier to fix red eye than some others.

I like it it corrects a lot of different lighting problems including warmth. Having an easy way to correct red eye would be great also.

i really really like the pop-up image selector. I hate having to go back and forth editing/undoing when pix doesnt turn out like i think it would. being able to click on the desired improved image so you can see them all side by side is a pretty cool feature. it would save me a great deal on editing (and boy do i have editing! i’m looking at 70 pix right now from just 2 days worth of festival/museum visits- and its only the FIRST week of summer….SIGH)

thanks for bringing this great program to our attention

I went to their site and the thing I would love the most that I can use is the relighting tool. I have quite a few pictures that could be awesome with some more lighting!

    Thanks!

I like the pop-up image selector. I think its really neat that you can chose you how your edited photos might look by clicking on the desired improved image. this way you can see them all side by side rather than saving multiple copies
