Best. Date. Ever!

My spouse and I have been doing our best to spend time together every week, or atleast every other week, away from our kids. Even if its a trip to the store, the movies, dinner, doesn’t matter, just away from work and focused on something other than diapers and washing dishes.

This past Sunday my cousin came over to watch the kids. I love her so much for even taking on Charlotte and Phoenyx, but even more-so lately that P has been whiny and annoying.

What? It’s true.

While talking to Chris on what he wanted to do with our new found Sunday afternoon freedom, I made a joke that we should just rent a hotel room and take a nap. And that is what we did. We rented a hotel room and curled up in sheets we didn’t have to wash, watched some doomsday movie, took a bath, read a book, and played games on our phones.

Without kids.

It was HEAVEN.

The beauty was we didn’t have to drive around the entire day “looking” for something to do, or walk in and out of stores just to have some time away.Plus, we were only a few streets away, so around 5 we went back to the house, checked on the kids and tucked them into bed. Then we went back out and ate dinner and then back to the hotel. I took another nap. Do you know that evening naps are just as good as day time naps?

They are.

Anyway I wanted to share the thought because it ended up being such a nice time that I may build in a hotel room twice a month to our schedule. Even though we didn’t get to stay the night (of course) as the summer gets here and we can enjoy hotel amenities like a pool and spa, I foresee lots of day time dates in a new home away from home.

What do you typically do on dates in your house?

  1. We don’t do a lot. Usually it’s a movie at home while the children watch one in the basement. It’s still sans children! Sometimes we run an errand.

  2. Debbie says:

Love this idea ! Hubby and I have not been on a kid free date in forever !

  3. We have so done that before but we actually stayed the night while the kiddos were with my aunt. I like going to the movies or going shopping.

  4. We always joke about renting a hotel room and sleeping as well but never actually did it. I am thinking we should.

  5. What a great idea and something I would love to do with my hubby!

  6. Sounds wonderful and much more restful than our two days away.

  7. What a neat idea! Who says you have to travel far to stay at a hotel?!

  8. Love the idea Trisha and I especially love that you and Chris are working so hard – makes me warm inside.

  9. I love staying in hotels! Jeremy and I typically will go see a band…usually he is playing too and I am photographing all the bands…. So I guess that still counts as a working date?

  10. This is a wonderful idea!!!

  11. What a great idea!!

  12. That’s awesome!

We usually go see a movie, maybe grab some food and head home. We have a great sitter – but we often don’t come up with anything better than a movie.

  13. I just told Jon about your “date” and he gave me this look like “damn, that was a good idea.”

I wish we had more time alone to do something like that but on the rare occasion we get an hour of free time together it’s usually right before a birthday/holiday to shop for the kids.
