Yesterday I had some time before leaving Asheville to head out to the Biltmore Estate. If you have never been there, you absolutely must take your family to spend the day (or night!) at the not-to-be-missed 150,000 acres.
The Biltmore Estate is best visited during April when they put on the Festival of Flowers, but even in late September I was able to capture some of the exquisite beauty that makes it a family attraction.
Its literally impossible to express how large and sprawling the entire location is. In some ways I find it sad that I get amazed at the nature around me, but the truth is that large open landscapes with a true dedication to preservation is a rarity. And while technology advances, our need to get back to nature seems to be more prevalent-or atleast the case is in my life.
Here are some of the beautiful flowers that Biltmore (and Mother Nature) has to offer in the gardens. Please note that no flash, filter, or digital enhancement was used on these photos. These are truly the colors that these flowers grow.

It’s really pretty. i haven’t ever been there, but we are planning to go there maybe next summer. We usually go to Boone to Blowing Rock in NC.
Luvin the photography! I like the park bench – makes me want to go visit!
Wow, Trisha! You are such a great photographer! I love how you captured the color!
GORGEOUS! Makes me want to go!
Your pictures are amazing! Now I don’t think I can put up my pictures on my post anymore.
We had so much fun and my kids were enjoying their conversation on what to do if they live there.
trisha- we’re going up before thanksgiving, do you think it’s suitable for a 2 yr old. i had pretty much been told no, too much walking, so we put if off our list, whatcha think?
glad for all the info on the conference, cant wait to go to the next one- its location is more feasible for me
My opinion is that there is enough to do to take a younger child. Clearly the estate (house)itself is more museum like and a tour. I would bring a carrier or sling in case your little one is tired. Since there are a lot of stairs, its not as easy to navigate w/ a stroller, although there are elevators in some areas.
With it being nov, its going to be colder and I am sure the flowers will be gone. But they did have a petting zoo w/ chickens, chicks, goats, sheep, a donkey, and a horse that was fun. They had shopping, a woodcraftsman, a metal worker (not sure what they are called), games in the yard to play. There were picnic areas. You can rent bikes and ride horses.
Of course there are LOTS of places to RUN RUN RUN so a 2 year old may enjoy that. I would still go and you may just find that your tour is an abbreviated one over the full.
I love the mansion so much. I have been many many times and each time I learn something new. Though I could honestly recite the entire tour by heart at this point. But I either learn or see something new each and every time.

We went there last fall. It was a little nipply, er, nippy, but we enjoyed ourselves sooo much. I got some great shots of the barns at the farm and of the Biltmore Mansion.
We hope to go back on our next trip to N.C.
Those are amazing pics! What a beautiful place!
I had no idea how lovely it was! Wow!

Oh, Trisha. Your images are phenomenal. (They put mine to shame; I so need a new camera and some photo practice.) I look forward to more of your travel-related work!
