DAY FOUR QUESTION

What is your favorite Holiday recipe?
I love to cook and bake all yearlong it has surely become one of my favorite hobbies. With a family of six it can be outrageously expensive when we go out to eat so we’ve learned to make exquisite dishes at home. We enjoy four course dinners as often as possible. I can say with certainty we are “foodies”. I have two large cabinets in my kitchen devoted to spices alone. I think right now I have four different types of salt (fleur de sal, rock, kosher & standard salt) sitting in the spice cabinets. That’s how much we love anything to do with the kitchen.
With this foreknowledge about my cooking & baking love I will now divulge my favorite Holiday recipe drum roll…it is my Classic Cheesecake made completely from scratch!
My family huddles around the kitchen island when we bring dessert out. People have begged for this recipe and I’ll admit I’ve never shared it! But I will share it with my Momdot buddies! In my humble opinion it’s a close call between my Cheesecake and any restaurants best Cheesecake. I will admit it’s a little time consuming, but it is well worth it! Describe your Holiday table.
We have a huge family and at minimum we can expect 30 people at our Holiday dinners. We have the classic grown up and kids table! For our grown up table I like to use the dinner as a great opportunity for me to pull out our fancy china. I love small details like matching serving ware and scented lighted candles. For everyones sanity and to preserve our hearing, I have a separate kids table, which I decorate appropriately. I like to have funny festive straws and decorative plastic ware for them to abuse. I usually have crafts for them at each childs place setting.
What is your biggest Holiday cooking disaster?
To become a good cook does take lots of practice but I am happy to say I have never had anything disastrous or too memorable happen. I thought I’d take the opportunity to share a few safety tips, which should help you divert a disaster!
#1 NEVER attempt to put out a grease fire with Water!
#2 If you are planning on Deep Frying a Turkey, first fill the large pot with water, drop the turkey in and make sure it does not overflow. Take the turkey out and then mark a line where the water level is. Then fill your large pot with oil to your marked line. This will ensure the oil does not overflow and ignite on the flames (we all seen turkeys up in smoke on Funny Videos Right!)
#3 Invest in a meat thermometer, it just take a moment once your dinner is ready to insert the thermometer and ensure it comes up to the right temperature.
