Blogalicious Designs: A look at the women behind the makeovers

17 Aug Posted by FeatureBlogger in General | 10 comments

Blogalicious Designs is a wonderful blog makeover company out there. When I say wonderful I mean they make beautiful designs for blogs.

Stephanie and Staci are two of the sweetest, funniest and talented women I know. Since they are a sponsor for our launch month I wanted to take a little deeper look to see the women behind the makeovers.

First tell us a little bit about each of you so our readers can get to know the people behind the design.
Steph: First of all, I’m married to the hunk over at Protein Shake n Chocolate Cake and we have two wonderful kiddos. I basically lay my life out for the whole world to see on my own blog, at Live. Laugh. Love. If my kids read all of the things I wrote about them, I’m sure I’d be in trouble, but most of it is good… I’m a follower of Christ, love to sing, and LOVE to spend time with my family and friends.

STACI: My name is Staci.

DUH!

And I am a wife, a mother, a cook, a maid, a teacher, a disciplinarian, a blogger AND a blog designer (all but the last one fall under “stay at home mommy) :)

How did you blogalicious girls meet?
Steph: It’s funny – we write a little about it on the Blogalicious Designs site, and some people may think we’re just being funny, but it really was our love for Point of Grace (a Christian vocal group) that brought us together. Ok, that may not be entirely true, but once we realized we could both sing, there was no stopping us! We’ve known each other for about 15 years, and over those years, we’ve both gotten married (not to each other, obviously), had kids, bought houses…

STACI: Well we meet at our youth group, back in good ole 1993, Steph was singing, as usual, and my bro said “YOU HAVE TO COME HEAR THIS GIRL SING” to which I replied “whatev” cause i was cool like that…..but i went anyway…..and found she could infact sing and weve been friends every since….ya know cause i only hang out with cool people. :)

Who came up with the idea for Blogalicious Designs and what inspired the idea?
Steph: It was totally Staci. She is definitely the creative mind in this duo. She asked me to start this business with her and I laughed. I mean, I told her I would support her in anything she wanted to do and I would certainly be her biggest fan, but why on earth would she want me to ruin her business?? She promptly told me to stop complaining, suck it up, and she needed my business mind. So here we are.

STACI: That would be me. And it was inspired by Steph because she couldn’t say enough flattering things about my blog design……then i was like “DUDE we should totally start a business!!” and she was all “NO WAY im not creative” and I was like “seriously, LETS DOOO THIIIS!” and so here we are now…..all blogalicious and what not…..BTW my husband TOTALLY came up with the name!!! What a girl!!!

Obviously there is alot of work that goes into blog design, do you share the work when designing a blog?
Steph: When we first started the business, we thought we both be involved in the design of every blog, so really a team effort. That got tossed out the window fairly quickly and moved to more effective use of our talents. Like I said before, Staci is definitely the creative brain in the duo, and I am the business mind. We laugh because Staci can design a blog in the time it takes me to dry my hair, and I recently redesigned my own blog… and it took me 3 weeks! I’m more of the technical thinker, so I usually handle the installations and coding, etc.

STACI: Yes.
Stephanie seems to think she’s not creative (have you seen her new blog??) so she has given me the title “designer” and she is the “HTML Queen”
It works well because we are both talented in both areas but taking on the majority of designing frees her up to do the business side of things, if one has a hard time with something, because we can do both, we help the other out. Im not sure that made any since….if not just re read until you understand…. :)
Anyway, i do the majority of the designing but she does all the technical grouping the layers and installing the HTML….without her genius I would not survive.
She completes me.

Being friends does that make it easier or harder to have a business together?
Steph: Well, I wouldn’t want to be in business with someone I wasn’t friends with, so think it makes it much easier. We are both in the same stage of life – married with small children (although mine are growing faster than hers, I think) – so it doesn’t bother us if we have to push back a meeting or reschedule because of a family conflict. Besides, most of our meetings are at Starbucks with laptops in tow… who would want to do that with someone you didn’t like?

STACI: Its sooo super easy with Steph. We are both easy going people…..we no likey drama!!

What do you love most about doing blog designs?
Steph: Staci will puke at the thought of this, but my favorite part is maneuvering the html code. I love discovering new ways to make our designs better, as far as the installation goes.

STACI: That I have something to keep me from going nuts during the day, being creative is a sort of release for me, when the kids have stressed me out. Or my laundry touches the ceiling, it is something to calm my nerves….and I LOVE that I can choose to do it at my pace. I LOVE being creative. AND i love to help people out. It brings me soo much joy to hear someone loves what i have done for them, that I have made it “THEIRS”

What is your least favorite part?
Steph: The actual designing. (lol) Don’t get me wrong, I will occasionally have a creative moment and shock both of us with a really cute blog design, but that is definitely the exception and not the rule!

STACI: So far I haven’t had any “least favorite moments” Sometimes people can be a bit picky….but i have to put myself in their shoes at times, I wouldn’t want my blog representing me if it wasn’t my style…..honesty is important….so i cant really complain :)
