Personal and blog related posts

I Heart The First Amendment Sticker (5089)MomDot has always been a blog that helps bloggers, companies, and each other. We are also known for controversial subjects. Up until recently, the community has been able to withstand critics. All things considered, the majority of our visitors are quite mature, whether they agree or not.

But this week I have personally received death threats and some of the forum members are receiving threats of assault and more for just belonging to this group.

Its a big world.

We are not out there forcing our opinions on anyone.  You have to either show up or subscribe to read, which of course is  an optional decision. This is one blog in a sea of millions that create content that others don’t agree with and also one of the smaller blogs on the net regarding controversy. Let me remind you that the opinion that we are “mean” over “controversial” depends on which side you are on. If you are on the side that agrees with the material, its controversial. If you play defense, its “mean”. Either way its our right to run this blog how we see fit and produce “mean” content.

For now, in an effort to protect my family from being killed, or threatened to be killed, over freedom of speech, my family posts and videos will be private from this point on. Which is actually kinda awesome because there have been many subjects I haven’t touched before and now I will feel more comfortable branching out.

General readers will still have access to a good majority of  free content, but if you are an avid reader/commenter and would like a FREE upgrade to  Member Status or you advertise momdot on your blog (like in a banner), please check this page to find out if you qualify to view our private posts. We want you to continue reading and will work with you if you have been a part of us.

Make sure you register for a FREE membership before filling out the upgrade info.

All other visitors will need to upgrade by a paid subscription. If you are going to harass us, you can now pay for my house security system.

P.S. Suck it.

  1. Good for you Trisha! I’m sorry to see it get to this point. But I think you are making the right decision to keep your family safe.

I’ve been scarce with school, but HOLY MOLY, death threats are not anything to joke around with. Totally understand taking things private. Stay safe, my friend.

  3. blueviolet says:

I feel so out of the loop on this, but your safety is important, so I trust that you’re doing the right thing.

  4. Amy Brewer says:

I have been reading where it seems everyone is having problems..I don’t think it’s right that this happened to you. I read everyones blogs. Not just for giveaways but to just to read the posts also. I have seen where there is so much stuff going on. I don’t know anything just only what I read. I just try to stay neutral and like everyone. I have never had trouble with any blogger. I know you all have your own opinion but that is what makes you all your own person. I don’t think any blogger should feel threatened or anything like that. I think it’s horrible. Anyway, I enjoy reading your blog. Although I never hardly leave comments I am subscribed to your rss feed to stay updated..lol

  5. Alyson says:

I am sorry this is what it has come down to but this seems like the pbest possible answer.

  6. Kelly W says:

    GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

  7. I’m sorry that this happened. I think people need to step away from their computers, and get some fresh air.

  8. Robin G says:

I think you did the right thing, esp. with your daughter getting older now.

  9. Creative Junkie says:

I’m sorry this has happened, but you need to do what you feel is best, right?

  10. Crystal says:

Never came here before so I have noooo idea what’s been going on! Saw this posted by Gena @themorrisbunch and wanted to read it! I can’t believe someone would risk/jeopardize spending their life in prison over someones choice in, what can we call it, writing! I mean, it is after all YOUR blog. I’m so sorry and anything to keep the family safe! Btw-im crystal, nice to meet ya Trish :)

  11. I have been threatened via email, twitter, comments on my website, as well as physically threatened as well, and more so in the last 6 months. Stalking, harassing and cyber-bullying is not a joke. The issues with me has gone on for over 3 years. I don’t know why people can’t act like adults. Pretty sad.

  12. Sisterlisa says:

I have received threats too, but not from bloggers, yet in my comment sections. Mostly from people in my town, because I speak up about local issues that they don’t want brought to the light. I understand your choice Trisha. Did you make changes since yesterday? I can’t find the posts I was enjoying on my Blackberry. I came back today to leave my comments. :P Help me?

  13. Laura Rucker says:

Wow, I’m glad you found a way to still have your freedom of speech. I TOTALLY don’t understand why people are overreacting over your post. VERY SAD!!!

  14. As I said on the board, I may not always agree with you…but who always agrees anyhow? I do believe in Freedom of Speech though and am sad that it has went this far. I hope I get to continue reading your posts.

  15. Jessica says:

I am going to be sad to see some of the content leave, but completely understand. Yours and your family’s safety is first and foremost! And I’ll be completely honest…there are topics covered on MomDot that I do not always agree with, but that happens with almost every site you visit. It’s just sad that people are not able to close their browsers and walk away from the site. Instead they’d rather than flaring up a bunch of drama on the internet.

  16. I’m so sorry this is happening to you. It’s a shame that people think they can intimidate us through the computer screen and get away with it. I don’t think I qualify as a frequent commenter and the subscription isn’t in my budget so I do hope you’ll be able to post freely again some day soon. Until then, I’ll follow and read what I can and tweet with you :)

  17. ilikeitfrantic says:

Sorry that it has come to this but so glad that you feel safe to keep going.

  18. Stefanie says:

So sad that adults can’t act like adults. But I feel better about you doing it this way in order to keep your family safe.

  19. Kim says:

I love the PS! The way I see it is that it’s your blog on YOUR site. Should you be allowed to put your point of view on your own blog? Hell yes! Otherwise, what’s the point?!

  20. gena says:

YAY! I am sorry it has come down to this but your safety is what is important!
