CPSIA Insults Mommy Bloggers

Posted on Trisha-admin on January 15, 2009 // 49 Comments //

finger

Last night while on twitter, @thesmartmama twittered out a video from the commissions village idiot spokesperson Julie Vallese from the CPSIA. If you can get through this totally cringe worthy, nonclarifying  video long enough to see her blame the misinformation of the law on mommy bloggers, you will see that the CPSIA are basically hall monitors that are excited to be passing out detention slips, but having very little real knowledge of their own law, how to enforce it, or even where they will get the resources to do so. I was so insulted by the condescending attitude and little smirk that was on this ladies face at times, that I wanted to reach through the computer and pull a Pumpkin from Flava Flav move.

Julie, the reason us mommy bloggers have to talk about the law, is because your idiotic council got a hard little erection at the thought of passing a law and rather then doing the research and enacting something that was going to help our country be safe from lead based toys from China, created an umbrella law that doesnt allow me to purchase hairbows for my daughter anymore.

Go suck on an egg.

You told her to go suck an egg —

Yeah, a LEAD (600 parts per million) egg, and whether she actually sucks it or not, she should “use her best judgement.” :)

One angry “mommy blogger” here. Thanks for spreading the word and flipping her the hidden bird.

I have to say she tried really hard to sound educated on the subject but I must at admit her long pauses and her repetition of the questions asked only made her look foolish. Also at the beginning it looked as though she was reading a card and kept messing up. I am high offended and I agree with you on the picture. I am glad all of these bloggers have been commenting on this post it shows we have a strong community of bloggers that stand by one another.

This was the best video against the CPSIA I’ve watched yet! Way to go!
I’m a mom but it’s our 13-year-old son who has a home business making pencil toppers for kids. He’s been doing it for three years & has become quite successful. Even though he doesn’t have to make a living with his business yet, it’s a really bad message our government is sending to young entrepreneurs of America. He’s a sensitive kid but pretty business savvy so we’re all in this together!
They can’t possibly leave the law the way it’s written. There are so many people making noise, they can’t just tune us out.

You are awesome! Very very very well put. I was highly insulted by Julie’s little comment about mommy bloggers. Glad to hear she’s “retired” now.

I think Julie was the same person who alluded to the fact that handmade artisans and crafters shouldn’t be upset because manufacturers had a voice in the initial discussions. I think what she meant to say was “large-scale corporations who donate millions of dollars to political campaigns had a say in the original bill, small businesses and work-at-home mothers are truly inconsequential to the actual functioning of government… so we really didn’t care about them.”

Ah well, I’m taking a wait-and-see attitude. I’ve written my Senators and Representative twice each and received back one form letter. I’ve contacted all the local news media to drum up interest, but apparently they’re still too focused on whether or not Casey Anthony had donuts for breakfast in jail. I voted on Change.org, so we’ll see if I have to shut down my shop.

I do know one thing, though, if there aren’t any changes to the CPSIA there will be a ridiculous sale in my shop starting February 3rd. When I say ridiculous, I mean below-cost-of-fabric ridiculous.

I’m so angry I don’t even know where to start.

I found a wonderful sweet lady that was going to knit me a beautiful sweater for my nephew and now I can’t but it because of the stupid law and even worse this was her dream was to knit clothes for young children and now her dream is no more.

I bought some hair bows about 3 weeks ago before either one of us knew about the law and if they get turned back at the border I’m not even going to talk about how I’ll feel then.

Here’s the funny thing, I found out about it through a person owns a place that does resale of items…not from a blog at all.
