Day #2: Cabbage Soup Diet

I made it through yesterday.

I wont lie..I thought perhaps I was starving to death at moments. And it wasn’t because I was necessarily hungry, it was because I was hungry for other things than what I was eating. Watching my family eat lunch and dinner yesterday was pure torture.

Macaroni and Cheese, turkey sandwiches….every TV show we watched I was noticing  food more than the plot.

Plus, we almost had a death in our family when my Dh, being a smart ass, put the Butterfinger bar Charlotte got him for his birthday under my nose and asked me if it smelled good. I gave him a good lecture on being more supportive– right after I threatened to do some bodily harm.

So I am sure you want the goods. Did I lose any weight in one day on The Cabbage Soup Diet? Well, I went and bought one of those fancy digital scales that tell you your water weight, your regular weight, and your fat percentage so I could properly document this adventure.

Yesterday when I started I was 111.8 pounds.

Just to remind you, on Day #1 you could eat all the fruit you wanted. As much as that sounds fabulous, by 7 pm I wanted no fruit and no soup.   I ended up taking my Cranberry juice (OK in the diet) and putting it in the blender with some ice, fresh strawberries, and fresh blueberries. While bland, it certainly spruced up the monotony of the day.  I reminded myself that people pay $8 a glass for this at juice bars.

It made me feel slightly better.

My diet for Day one consisted of:

  • 1 pear
  • 1 large orange
  • 3 bowls of Cabbage Soup (1 for lunch, 2 for dinner…i could not force myself to eat it for breakfast)
  • 3 glasses of unsweet tea
  • 1 glass of water
  • 1 80z glass of cranberry juice icee (see above)
  • 2 spears of fresh pineapple in their own juice

I also cheated and had about 8 tic tacs (approx 16 calories) and the last Baby Belle Cheese in the fridge.

Don’t yell at me. Its not like I had a coke.

This morning I am 110 even.

So according to my super fancy scale, I have lost 1.8 pounds.

Kim has an even more impressive result  on her blog.

So far it sounds too good to be true, but we shall see if that weight fluctuation is legitimate or not.

Today…today is going to be doubly hard. Along with the soup, Day #2 allows you to eat any vegetables you want  (woo) except beans, peas, or corn, which are higher in calories. I didn’t realize that when I prepared food for today, so I have 2 ears of corn I had totally planned to saute in a hot pan with some green peppers.

I am still thinking of doing it.

The problem is, the soup is ALL vegis as it is. Adding vegis to vegis is the worlds most obnoxious diet. I cant believe people voluntarily eat vegis all day. How do vegans survive? Ooh, let me have some lettuce with those radishes! Exciting!

I feel like a rabbit.

But I’ll pursue.

Mainly cause I don’t want Kim to call me a fat baby quitter that couldn’t hang. My intentions  today are to find ways that I can make raw vegis “fun”. Maybe I’ll try something new that I have never had before. Oh, and for dinner, I am allowed 1 baked potato WITH butter. That’s something to look forward to.

My mouth is seriously watering at the thought.

  1. I read your day 1 going on day 2. I was wondering if you hung in there and what the progress is. I am on day 2 also looking forward to the potato!

  2. Congrats. And that’s awesome that Charlotte got her daddy a candy bar for his birthday. I wish my kids would do that for me!

  3. Can you roast the potato with a little bit of olive oil and veggies? That would be good… I’m pretty sure by now you’ve had your potato though. lol This is awesome that you’re blogging it, by the way… I’m pregnant now and can’t diet but I’m trying to watch myself – making sure I don’t gain too much weight. Oh wait, too late. * sigh * I think I’ve gained more than the recommended 1-5 pounds you should gain in the first trimester. lol So not fair, I’m STARVING all the time!

I’ll be waiting to find out how you survive! I did a one-day fast when I was a teen, only drinking veggies JUICED, and the next day we got a bean burrito. Oh my word it was the best thing I ever ate. lol Make sure you don’t take on any diets that make you want to inhale “real food” again afterwards… this one doesn’t sound too bad since you can eat. 🙂

  4. Wow, I am almost wondering if I should try this diet to get rid of some of this body fat! I commend you on your efforts!!!

  5. Can you use olive oil on this diet? I lttle olive oil drizzled on cauliflower and the roasted in oven until it carmalizes is divine and it is the sole reason I have been able to stay on an almost all vegan detox diet for the past 2 months to clear up a plethora of illnesses and sensitivities (sp?) I have been developing over the years. Best of luck, you can do this!!
