Reading has always been an important part of our bedtime routine with Lily. Every single night after bath time, Lily chooses a book and we both snuggle in her bed to read. I am hoping this will encourage her to pick up a book on her own and eventually instill a love of reading.
I think one of the best things about reading is that it forces you to use your imagination. Unlike a movie where everything is laid out before you, books encourage you to picture what the murder scene looks like, or what the title characters are wearing. You have to imagine what their accent must sound like or how they wear their hair. What a great gift to give your child!
MomDot wants to help you promote reading in your own home by letting you know of an gigantic book release (literally!). I’m not sure yet, but I sure hope so. My older sister is pregnant with the family’s first grandchild, she and her husband have been trying to get pregnant for years, and at Thanksgiving they announced they were. It’s a boy, and I’m fairly certain I’m going to be the best aunt ever. He’s due in July and I have already spent entirely too much money on stuffed dinosaurs and tiny dinosaur outfits. He’s a boy, so of course he is going to LOVE dinosaurs, just like his Aunt Bai!
I think it is very important to read to my son. Reading to preschoolers is the best way to prepare them to read on their own. Thanks for the chance!

I believe reading to our children helps develop recognition of words and verb tenses, sentence structure, creates relationship closeness, stimulates imationation; and different stories can be educational and/or fun in their own right.
What our children enjoy about reading would be getting caught up in the story, spending time with their parents, the pictures, and the imaginative components in the stories!
Our children are fascinated with dinosaurs. And, yes I find it very important to ready to the children, as does my husband . . . and our parents (the grandparents.)
just to cool

All 3 of my kids love Dinosaurs.
I know for my daughter who has just learned to read, it makes her feel independent. She loves that she can do it herself. Reading takes them away to different places and let’s them use their imagination. Sometimes it’s just plain silly.

Even after they can read on their own, they still curl up around me to be read to. I’m sure it’s quite a funny sight to see me and 5 kids (ages 2 – 13) piled up on the couch reading “Big Red” which is the two youngests favorite.

I do find it important to read to our children. Not only is it bonding time, but books bring up topics that do not come up in their everyday lives.
My 5yr old really likes dinosaurs. He does not see them as big scary creatures yet though. One of his favorite series is How Do Dinosaurs (such and such?). We have several of those books in our home library.
My children like reading because it means one on one time with either me or my husband.

My little guy LOVES dinosaurs. And “roar”-ing like dinosaurs. All. The. Time.
I find reading so important. We are giving the opportunity to teach our children. My daughter likes to count things on the pages, and she learns more words. She is only 2, but pointing out different pictures on the page and reading the stories has helped her vocabulary. I think Reading books to my daughter is Wonderful!
My daughter has watched a couple of movies about dinosaurs, one with Elmo and one with Diego and she was fascinated by them. She sat so quietly and watched with big eyes.
(On my last comment I meant to say that reading calms our day not “clams”)
I love to read with my daughter, because it clams our day. She will sit on my lap and listen to me. Sometimes she will ask questions and it is just a perefect opportunity to sit together and enjoy each other.
Oh my goodness….
1. My daycare kiddos love for me to read to them. They love the different stories and after I finish the book, we talk about things that happened in the story.
2. Do my kiddos love dinosaurs? For me that is a silly question. I have two daycare boys that only want to play with dinosaurs. They are 3 and 5 years old and they can tell you the real names of a bunch of them.

I 100% think it is important to read to your kids, and when they are old enough to read i think it is equally important to also have them read to you. As parents we need to be working on the same team as our children’s teachers!
all 3 of my boys love dinosaurs and we have a huge bin in their room busting at the seams with dinosaurs!
My oldest loves to read. He is actually AP in his class. I adore seeing him sitting in his room or on the sofa reading a book, especailly since I love reading so much as well
We read with our boys every day, but my favorite time to read with them is to snuggle up right before bed and dive into story after story.
All of our boys like dinosaurs, they’re boys, but our youngest son LOVES them. He would go nuts to have this big book!
Our boys LOVE reading, they love to slip into the story and they truly believe they are a part of each book they read.
