Do you just give up?

On your kids fashion I mean.

Charlotte insisted on a skirt over her jeans today…the other day, double shirts.

NONE of it matched and she claims that it does. In fact, I think she told me the ‘tag’ on the skirt matched the shirt. Maybe we should have a talk.

What a pair we make…a mom in jogging pants and Tshirts and a kid in double shirts and random patterns. The pleather doesn’t fall to far from the fashion tree around here…

While it is cute when kids dress themselves – I will only let my kids dress themselves if I know I’m going to stay at home all day. If we are going anywhere, I need to dress them my way.

When it comes to this I have had to learn to pick my battles. My oldest know that on party days and picture days I have final ruling on ALL fashion choices down to shoes.

My hubby and I take pictures of her out there fashion choices. They are stored in a safe place to be used as blackmail later. Some days I am amazed at how fashion forward she is and that she really knows how to put stuff together. Other days not so much.

LOL WHat a little fashion model she is Maybe she’ll start a whole new trend LOL

  4. I stopped picking out my girls clothes when they were about 7/8. Now they are 16 and 12 (13 next week) I still try to pick out their clothes and force them to wear them, that results in crying teens. Not fun! I really wish I could go back to the day I could pick out their clothes and make them all cute.

    She looks adorable!

Oh how I miss those days. My daughter will be 13 in May and her choices of clothing drive me nuts. I WISH she would go back to mis-matched prints.

  6. Brandy says:

    How cute!

  7. Oh she looks adorable. Rowan does the same thing. I let her be creative. But I won’t let her go out with really freaky ass colors. LOL

And she is a major fahionista about shoes. LOL

My son wears sweat pants every single day. I decided to stop caring what the other mom’s at story hour thought. They don’t have to deal with the kid who hates jeans. Who cares what other people think, our kids are happy and expressing themselves! Yes, my son is the one you see in cowboy boots and a cape at the store. :)

  9. Firefly says:

She is adorable :) and I thought all kiddos do that, OK well mine does…just now she is wearing the most ridiculous skirt and tights LOL

  10. Sarah says:

She’s got style mama! I LUV kids creations when they dress themselves. I try and let Cam go for it most days.

Can’t wait for Leah to dress herself, girls clothes are more fun to mix up ;)

    She’s ADORABLE…as always!

  11. Jenny says:

I bet when she gets older she’ll be able to put together creative, flattering outfits that actually do go together. My mom never let me out of the house in something like this and I was never confident in my clothing choices. As an adult, I know when an outfit just absolutely doesn’t look right, but I tend to shy away from fun, different looks and new things because I’m paranoid they won’t look right on me. Most of my wardrobe is depressingly plain. So Charlotte may be a little mismatched for a few years while she figures it out, but she still looks adorable and she is learning an important skill.

    • Trisha-admin says:

so did your mom make you change clothes?

      • Jenny says:

Yes, but that wasn’t all. She picked out my clothes almost all the time when I was Charlotte’s age and was really particular about them. One time in kindergarten we had Wacky Wednesday. Girls wore their hair in a ponytail on one side and a pigtail on the other, put on their clothes inside out, or wore shoes of two different colors–things like that. I told my mom I needed to look wacky. She got all flustered and eventually dressed me in a cheerleading costume. I think she thought Wacky Wednesday was tacky. These occurrences tapered off by the end of high school, when she started asking my opinion on HER clothes.

You have to give her credit for trying. And she DOES look cute in anything.

  13. Stefanie says:

With a kid like her it doesn’t matter if she matches or not…she’ll always be adorable no matter what she has on! lol

I think it’s adorable! I see some fashion design/trendsetting in her future!

  15. My daughter is going through a “thing” where she wants to wear the same shirt EVERY day. Gah! Yeah, I gave up. Who cares right?? When it starts getting smelly and stained I may have to rip it off of her to run it through the wash though. :)

  16. I think it’s darling. I love this stage in childhood because it carves out an individuality. She’s learning who she is and what she likes and let’s face it…that’s just fun. :)
    She’s adorable.

  17. Lou Lange says:

It’s a phase honey…my kids used to pull off strange color combinations etc. and no one blinked an eye at school. No teacher calls etc. So we just let them go until the next thing came along.

  18. Erin says:

I was going to say the same thing Kim. She can pull it off very well. She is too cute.

  19. I think she looks great! Who are we to decide what fashion will look like in the furture? They are the next Fashionistas! Maybe you should start dressing like her and be ahead of the “curve” lol! Forever young!
    She looks like a doll!

  20. Kim says:

She totally pulls it off though. An adult would get made fun of, but cute kids can get away with it.
