Help! I am in ear infection hell over here! My poor baby not only has 5 (yes, I said FIVE) teeth coming in all at the same time, but now she has in her pediatricians words, “the worse double ear infection she has had to date.”
Oh joy.
Being that this is Aubrie’s 6th (oh heck, maybe more, I lost count) ear infection in 6 months, we are off to make an appointment with the ENT to schedule surgery to insert tubes in both ears. It really comes as no surprise because Lily had tubes placed at 12 months. As much as I hated having to place my 12 month old under general anesthesia, the ear tubes were a godsend. One of Lily’s tubes fell out just 6 months after placement and the other is STILL there. At our last ENT visit, he recommended removal of the stubborn tube.
So, if you are counting…..that makes TWO children who both need surgery this Summer. Do hospitals give you a two-for-one deal? LOL! So now the dilemma is:
Do we schedule both girls for surgery on the same day and just get it over with? Or, do we do them separately?
As much as I hate hospitals, I am tempted to do them both same day, but the very thought of putting BOTH my babies under general anesthesia at the same time makes my skin crawl. I need advice. What would you do?
And no, the hospital or doctor doesn’t do two-for-one deals…..I checked.

Make sure your pediatrician gives you a prescription for Auralgan ear drops if your babies ear drums haven’t ruptured. Auralgan ear drops kill the pain. Believe me I still get ear infections even as an adult. The only thing that got me through the pain as a kid and even now as an adult is the Auralgan ear drops.
I would have them done the same day. Seriously, it’s not bad at all and they are fine the rest of the day. Hopefully they will help out a lot. My daughter still gets ear infections with the tubes but not as many. We used to have 2-3 ear infections per month and now it’s about 1 or 2 at the most. GOOD LUCK!
My twin boys had their ears done at 11 months old – one right after each other. Just do them both at the same time. It was nothing for us, but that may be because I’m used to doing everything in twos.
So sorry about all of the ear infections. My son is on antibiotic right now, while getting in his two year molars. Several of my friends, and my SIL have taken both of their kids to have tubes put in the same day. Many doctors will recommend this since they can be together and recuperate quickly. Good luck

I’m so so sorry to hear that. Poor little things! I know someone else whose child is always sick and had to have tubes put in twice already. He is only 2. I think it’s because they don’t stay in place when the child grows.
Wow — I’m in the minority! I would do them separately so that you (the primary hug-giver!) can focus on each child.
If you have the help, I’d do them both the same day and get it over with. They usually bounce back by the next day. At least my youngest did. My older one took a couple days, but he was also 6 and had his tonsils and adenoids removed as well.
You’re right, they don’t offer 2 for deals, but they should. My boys both have their ENT check ups next week. At least they’ll schedule those together.
Ask about getting ther adnoids removed. I had tubes 5-6 times as a kid. Once my adnoids were removed the ear infections stopped with the exception of water in the ear.
I’d have them done the same day, as long as you have help getting both of them home. My 15 month old has had 5 ear infections, and I think has another. We are headed into the dr. today and am hoping for an ENT referral. I am sick of him being sick. I hope everything goes smoothly for you!!
I’d do them at the same time. Depending on how your older child did with them. 2 of my children had to get tubes and both acted as if nothing had happened once they came out from the anesthesia, which was rather quickly, maybe 30 minutes.
