One way to keep getting consistent traffic and new visitors to your blog is via search engines. Google of course will bring the most traffic, but having any traffic from search engines is good. This means you need to start optimizing.

Good Titles

This one is probably the most important. If you don’t write good post titles, chances are you won’t get many search engine visitors. Take a look at this post title for example. People could search for several phrases in that title, such as “SEO Tips” “Optimize your blog” “Easy SEO” “Optimize Tips” etc. You really want to keep it to what people will search for.

Another example I have is Trisha over at Sweet N Sassy Girls. Every week she posts Free RedBox Movie Codes. However her post titles are “Mondays RedBox Code for Nov 3rd” mostly like that.  Rewriting that to Free Movie Rental – RedBox Coupon Code, may end in more results. Getting those key phrases in the title is important.

Tag Your Posts

Many of you use blogger/blogspot so you can’t really customize  your site like you can on Wordpress. Therefore other than writing good post titles, you can also tag your posts to let the search engines know what exactly your post is about. Make sure to tag the main points of the article.

Build Links on Key Terms

Another way to start ranking for certain key terms and phrases (besides blogging about them of course) is to get links for those key terms you want. For BlogAboutYourBlog.com I started getting links pointing to my site under blogging tips. Generally the more links pointing to your site under a certain key term is best.

Of course some key terms will be near impossible to get, but it can be easy to rank for some long tail key terms. Such as maybe MomDot wants a certain post to rank well, like Birthday Parties for Kids. First blog about that with it in the post, then get links to the post, or link to it yourself. Follow the Trends

Another easy trick is to get in on a hot topic, early. I’ve seen many people create blogs just for one topic, and earn a lot of money doing so. Many try this theory on new technology releases like iPods, cell phones and more. Many also did this with the election (Obama and Palin).

You don’t have to create an entire blog about these topics, you can simply write posts about them, and follow the methods above. Yahoo lists their top searches on the bottom of Yahoo.com.
