1.  Tell us about your boutique and how you got started selling online?

Hi! I’m Shawna, the creator of Firefly Photo Jewelry. I make custom jewelry using photos of your loved ones. The majority of my work involved photos of children although I have also made photo pendants with pets, spouses, and photos of loved ones who have passed away. I have just expanded my business to include custom hand stamped pendants. I’m having so much fun combining the two.

I first started selling on Ebay and was introduced to the crazy world of custom boutique. I later started selling on fireflyphotojewelry.etsy.com which is where I can be found now.

2.  How did you come up with the name FireFly Photo Jewelry?

My business name is from the Faith Hill song “Fireflies”. I love the line, “I was taught to dream”. My dream is to be a stay at home mom to my children and creating jewelry in our home has enabled me to achieve that dream. But even more importantly I want my girls to reach for the stars and never be afraid to DREAM!!!

3.  What is the inspiration behind your product?

Simply, My life. I make jewelry I would wear. From pictures of my children to quotes I like, scripture verses or simply a strong word like BELIEVE. Custom jewelry allows you to express yourself with what is important to you! My inspiration comes from the things that are important to me. Creating custom pieces with my customers allows them to wear a piece that reflects who they are. My customers inspire me everyday with their original ideas.

4.  What is your most popular design?

By far my best selling design is a combination of a square photo pendant with a rectangle pendant that contains wording on both sides. While the wording may be customized the majority go with the sample I have which includes their children’s name/birth date on one side with the quote– “I’ll like you forever, I’ll love you for always, As long as I’m living, My baby you’ll be” on the reverse.

5.  How did you come to have FireFly Photo Jewelry, what made you decide to open up a business?

After the birth of our first daughter Kinzley Faith, I worked outside the home for a few months. I had found a charm shaped like a little rock that had her middle name etched on it, to keep her close in the hours we were apart. After I had our second daughter Kennacie Grace I looked and looked for the matching charm that would say her middle name also. I never did find one but instead I found the world of soldered jewelry.
I had started to look around for the best deal on buying a soldered pendant necklace when I turned on the TV one day. For some reason the channel was on a how to craft show and they were making soldered pendants. I tivo-ed it and re-watched over and over and over until I figured out how to make my own.
