Feature Boutique: My Baby Pajamas (Closed)

We are happy to introduce to you Linda . . . the creator of My Baby Pajamas!  After you learn a little bit about this boutique and its adorable offerings, we will tell you about the wonderful prize Linda has so generously offered to our MomDot readers.

1.   Linda, please start off by telling us about your boutique and how you got started selling online.

My online Boutique is called www.mybabypajamas.com .My Baby Pajamas specializes in high quality pajamas that are going to last and last. I carry sizes newborn to size 14 years and also have one women’s brand: Scanty Brand Pajamas (I have them on right now). I started My Baby Pajamas in October 2007.Since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with pajamas. When I had my first son 8 years ago, I loved putting him in his pajamas. It was my favorite part of the day, our bedtime routine. I went crazy buying him pajamas. Some were so cute; I even had him wear the pajamas as outfits. Then my husband and I moved to Arizona and I could not find the same brand pajamas I was buying in California.I started to search online and I found that I had to go to this website for this brand and this website for this brand. There wasn’t just one eCommerce store that had a lot of high quality pajamas: My Baby Pajamas was born and launched in October of 2007.

2.   Could you please tell us which items are the topsellers in your store?

My top sellers change from season to season. But right now, AT Home Pajamas and Hatley Footed Pajamas are my top sellers. It doesn’t matter what print or style, if it’s At Home pajamas and Hatley footed pajamas, it’s selling.

(After looking through My Baby Pajamas I could not resist showing our readers these adorable At Home snowmen pajamas.  Wouldn’t they be perfect to where to bed on Christmas Eve?~ Karen)

And what about these matching Hatley pajamas for mother and daughter?  These are just too cute for words!

3. What types of advertising methods do you use (both paid and unpaid)?  Which particular ones do you find to be the most effective?

I use all methods of advertising. I have Google adwords, which is a Pay per Click campaign. I have a company run my SEO, which is Search Engine Optimism. I love doing the Mommy Blogs or Parent Blogs and of course every company relies on word of mouth. I would say that the Mommy blogs give me the best feedback.I love to hear what everyone has to say about my website. Plus, Moms are great for word of mouth. I know when I find something I like, I tell all my friends.

4.  Is there a secret to running a successful business at the same time as raising two boys?

It is definitely a challenge to run a business and raise two boys. My oldest son is in 3rd grade so he is in school most of the day. My youngest is 3 years old and goes to preschool 3 days a week for a couple of hours a day. I also do a lot when the kids go to bed.>My husband and I make a rule that once the kids get home from school it is their time with us until it’s time for bed.>Plus, my boys actually love to help me put out the orders. They just get a big kick out of it. My oldest son always asks, “Am I going to get paid for this”?

5.   What advice would you give to other moms who would like to launch their own webstore?

The advice I have for other moms who would like to launch their own web store is research. Just do your research and see what’s out there. Make sure you have something unique and there isn’t a million stores out there like the one you want to start. I have definitely have made mistakes along the way but that is normal. When you make a mistake just count it as a learning experience and move on, don’t dwell on it.Everyone makes mistakes. And the last thing I would advise is balance.yes;>Balance family and work to the best of your ability.

Linda, thank you for the great interview and for offering a special bonus to MomDot readers. From now until December 31st, 2008 you can receive 10% off your entire order at My Baby Pajamas when you use promo code:  MOMDOT10.

I didn’t see any footed pjs, with the cold winters here and the blanket kicker we have it is necessary to have footed pj’s as socks never stay on.

I would like to see more unisex jammies (maybe even in it’s own filter) because with a girl AND boy at home, jammies get passed down from one to the other, and it won’t be long before my little guy protests at wearing pink to bed!

I like how you can sort PJs by gender, size and such, but it would be nice if you could do all of that in one filter – show me all the female and size 4. Also, the pictures are a little hard to see until you enlarge them.

My suggestion would be to put links to similar pajamas or other pajamas with the same fabric on the individual items pages. For example: there are several different “Take Me Home”outfits. When I click on one of them, it would be nice to see all the other ones available as well on one page. Or there are a few different styles of pajamas all made by one company and all available in the same fabric. When I click on one, I would like to see all the other styles available on the same page.

I like the site a lot, definitely am going to bookmark it. My suggestion would be to show more detail in the product photography, or even perhaps show them on models. I kept clicking on the pictures to get a larger view and it took me back to the homepage.

Her site is really cute, but I would like to see more girls items for younger girls that are not pink. There seems to be quite the variety for the older girls, just not the younger. And I love retro prints. Also anything brown and purple, brown and teal, brown and green, etc. Those seem to be really popular.

I love the knuckleheads lounge set Bowling. How adorable is that? But, I think I would be selfish and pick something for me, since I sleep in old t-shirts and old dance pants. It would be nice to have a real set of pj’s! So I would go with the Sprinkles Thermal PJ’s from Scanty Brand.
