Will you fix your contest for me to win?

[private]A blogging friend of mine received this email today:

hi, i was wondering if u coud possibly think about making me win the (editor removed) giveaway, i could send u half the retail in exchange! all u have to do iss keep hittin the random.org button till my number comes up. let me know. i really want it. ty

I know bloggers get a lot of heat for “unethical” behavior, fixed contests, blah, blah, but it was shocking to see someone REQUEST a fixed contest and give instructions on how to set it up.

Wow.

Just…wow.

First time ever I am speechless.

  1. “Sweepers” are out there talking bad about unethical bloggers, yet this is how they act. Just one bad apple rots the tree.

  2. Dee says:

okay, that is funny, but It’s really not. How sad that someone would even ask the question.

  3. The sad part is that I wonder how many times she has done this before and got away with it….

  4. karissa says:

set up to make bloggers look bad? and make people rethink our integrity? Or just a numbnut?

we will probably never know, but I do hope most folks realize that we are ethical, and do hold true to our word. that is what we write everyday!

  5. Pamela Scott says:

that takes guts, people just amaze me I thought random.org was so no one would cheat!! makes you wonder if anyone is doing that..

  6. Stefanie says:

Terrible!!!! That contestant should be disqualified! Geez…if you want something THAT bad then go out and freakin buy it!

  7. Melissa says:

That is just pathetic that someone would even email another person to ask them that! I would never rig my contests, in fact I just had a bunch end and this one girl won 2 different giveaways, but I didn’t even change that. Obviously it was her lucky day, ya know. It’s people like this that give us all a bad name, and it’s bs.

  8. sharon says:

Does anyone think the person who wrote this was trying to set up the blogger? Trying to see if this blogger cheats, as many out there do? just makes you think thats all…

  9. Firefly says:

Wasn’t random.org invented to make this sort of things easier, what I’m trying to say to make it random.
Before my first giveaway when I just started I was like ok how do I pick winners…if I just say ok you won wouldn’t other contestants think I just picked someone I liked, you know.
Than another blogger told me about random and it seems so simple and fair. I’ve been using random for every giveaway on my site (except that one that only got 3 comments from the same person LMAO) and it really NEVER crossed my mind to fix it or change the first result.
    It’s so stupid and wrong.

LOL anyone here has some cool giveaways you would like me to win LMAO just make me a winner :P

  10. Nichol says:

Wow that is not right. The nerve to ask unbelievable.

  11. Angie says:

HELL to the NO! I always go by Random.org even if I don’t post the screenshot. I wonder if people do that sometimes too…

  12. Firefly says:

LOL Mom Most Traveled it sure is making me want to know what the prize is! It must be something interesting!

  13. Spoodles says:

“I even question if people using the random.org generator, look to see who won, and decide to generate another number for whatever reason.” I’ve wondered that myself. What if the blogger doesn’t like the looks of me? Or what if I already won something from that blogger a month ago, and she just doesn’t feel giving me something else?

I’m always afraid somebody will notice how many giveaways I win (when I’m gettin’ lucky, which is not all the time, but they seem to come in waves) and think I’m like that person. NO, I just enter a LOT of contests. It’s my naptime recreation.

This kinda takes some of the fun out of it, huh? All the bloggers seem so friendly and nice, I just never thought anybody would do that. Somebody please tell me most bloggers don’t do that!

  14. Like I said in the forum – ethical bloggers wouldn’t even consider doing that. My mom enters almost every giveaway I have and has never won a thing except SoftSoap and that is because I had 30 winners and she got lucky!

  15. Spoodles says:

Wow! My mouth is hanging wide open. Question, though: Are there really bloggers who rig it? That takes all the fun out of it. Who would want to win that way?

  16. So…I’m still awaiting her reply, I mean will she fix it for me or not? I totally want to win.

    Kidding.

I wonder how sweet this giveaway in question actually is? I want to go enter now!

Wow! She has a lot of nerve. I could never ask anyone to fix a contest for me to win…I wouldn’t have the nerve to do that. I would be interested to know what she told this person.

the blogger emailed back and said that she hopes it was a JOKE because it was unacceptable.

  18. Laura Day says:

Wow! She has a lot of nerve. I could never ask anyone to fix a contest for me to win…I wouldn’t have the nerve to do that. I would be interested to know what she told this person.

  19. That one surprises even me. Sure, there have been things I would really like to have, but if I win I win, if I don’t, I just try again… and again.

I think the email should be posted for everyone to see on every blog with the caption “Don’t even ask!” I love entering contests and winning but this really shocks me! What nerve!
