Follow up on Charlottes ER visit

Remember when charlotte went to the hospital and did nothing but rack us up a $2,000.00 bill for unexplained serious pain? Well. The bills have come in.

The ones we actually owe after insurance pays out.

Let me tell you medical coverage in this country sucks butt, not that you don’t already know that. We ended up like $600 out of pocket. Even with all that said and done, what really annoyed me was looking over the itemized list.

IV …check  $500

Xrays….check  $1 million dollars

Doctor visit……check $4 billion dollars

ER check in…..check $2.78 million dollars

Medication……….. $28.

Medication? She didnt recieve ANY medication. Thats half the problem…they couldnt find a thing wrong to explain it. No tylenol, nothing. I started thinking that it meant the IV until I found that all listed already.

Then I figured it out. Want to know the medication?

meds

What is even more annoying? That freaking popsicle had a wrapper on it with a sticker that said 25 CENTS.  Whats that, like 20000% markup???

First of all, I cant believe they listed it as medication. Maybe if your a doctor to teddy bears in fairytale land. And second, $28? WTF.

I am thinking of dropping an entire box of “meds” off back to the ER and telling them to take that off my bill.

    @ Trisha-admin:
Not kidding at all. I even saved the bills for Rowan’s baby book. We call her “the million dollar baby” LOL And in this case, it’s true!

I still wonder why they even bothered to send us that bill. What was the point, other than to scare the life out of me?

But you should go to Costco, buy the case of popsicles & drop it off at the ER in exchange for them taking the $28 off your bill!

This is why I LOVE Tricare! We’ll pay like $50 for my son’s entire hospital stay. The Navy was good to us overall!

Ridiculous is the right word but so are all the charges for anything medical related! You do have to be wary of what’s on there because I’ve had false charges more than once. I’d love to see their faces if you actually bring by a box of popsicles, lol!

Um yeah I wouldn’t pay for that medication. I would call the insurance company and complain and have them call the billing department. That’s ridiculous.

Yeah, been there. I got a popsicle for dehydration in the hospital about 5 years ago, they charged me $32 dollars for it on my bill and it was one of those generic twin pops with two sticks. Medication is one of those thing I always refuse from now on, I’ll bring my own thanks.

That’s RIDICULOUS!!! $28 for a friggin popsicle??? I would call the hospital AND your insurance to protest it. ER’s & hospitals are notorious for overcharging or charging for things that they didn’t do. Then WE get to pay the price for it, literally.

I remember getting the “bill” for my daughter’s NICU stay…while she was STILL in the NICU! It was for nearly 1 million dollars! I nearly dropped the breast pump!

About 10 days after she got out of the NICU we got another bill…my heart stated racing…it was for 2.6 million! I almost had a panic attack. We had insurance. How could this be? I kept reading, and in small letters at the BOTTOM of the page it said “This is NOT a BILL”.

Buttheads!! I think they do this on purpose to scare us. Health insurance companies are EVIL (but unfortunately, necessary).

I’d call and make them justify the popsicle “medication” to you. Make them look up her chart and tell you where they gave her meds, etc. Just for fun, and to see if they take it off the bill. We all know they probably won’t, but you might get your $28 in entertainment.

Don’t you just love the detailed bills?! I think it’s crazy what they charge for certain things. I’m not looking forward to this surgery bill coming up, it should be interesting. I wonder what they’ll charge for the nasty tray of liquid dinner they tried to feed me while I was starving for REAL food. lol
