Help us name Gutter Kitty (poll)

Gutter Kitty needs a name.

We are taking him the dr tomorrow cause he is wounded and someone has to help him. I honestly don’t have this cash in the budget at all,  I mean getting him fixed, getting him shots, treating his injury…..but DH and I have a long history of saving pets and we cant turn our backs.

When DH and I moved in together in college, we adopted Sebastian from the Human Society. Someone had dropped him off because they were “moving”. He was our first pet together and has had one surgery on his head and one amputation. He is also a little nuts and I could kill him some days.  Most days. But he is ours.

Then we adopted “little kitty” from the paper. He was a wild kitty..he is still pretty wild 10 years later. Someone found him and trapped him. The dr told us he was a she and we named her Alexandria. Then we found out she was a he when we went to get him fixed… so we shortened it to Alex. But by that point we had spent so much time saying “come here little kitty” since he was  nervous, that his name became little kitty.

He has major middle child syndrome and will pee on your stuff if he is mad at you.

Years passed and a cat showed up at our door (at our apartment in college) and decided we were in his house and he would curl up on our couch at night and run the streets during the day. We named him Enigma. Then he showed up one morning almost falling over. We took him to the vet and he was dying from Feline AIDS and we had to put him to sleep. It was horrifying. We loved him in the few weeks he made himself a part of our home. We had him cremated and he has been with us since.

(no pic available)

Not weeks later Napoleon came to us as a kitten. The irresponsible pet owners downstairs let their cat get pregnant, threw her outside to have the babies, then moved, took the mama and left the kittens abandoned.  We only found the one kitten from the litter. We were also pretty sure the father of the kitten was the cat we had to put down. It comforted us. I trapped the kitten in a cage by luring him with Chinese food. DH will never let me live it down.  Napoleon remains our sweetest  (and largest at almost 20 pounds) cat and  also our biggest baby.

After we got out of college and got married, we moved to Texas and my DH brought home an abused Siamese that was at Petsmart. She had been removed from her home for animal cruelty and the dogs had been taught to attack her. She had a nervous condition and pulled her fur out for years. In fact, she didn’t come out from under our bed (literally) for two years straight. It was through DHs love and patience that made her ultimately enjoy her days out with us where she passed last year due to Kidney failure. She lived almost 8 (happy) years in our home.

Her name was Mei Sei Mae.

2 years ago we got our last cat (ha!), Paprika, from a trailer on the side of the road here in Alabama. There was a sign that always said “Free kittens”…no matter what time of the year. I made DH stop and he knew what he was in for, no matter what he says. We stopped and brought home my sweet doll baby Paprika. She is our only female cat. She likes to carry around plastic.

Now this new cat has entered our lives. Someone abandoned him in our neighborhood and we can’t turn away.

I only say all this to remind everyone, please care for the pets you take in.  ALL of our pets are rescues. They are not things you can throw away or give up. They are commitments. They live full lives. The provide happiness and love, but they need health care, food, affection, and time.

We are currently caring for OTHER peoples responsibilities. They are our joy, but they all should have been someone elses joy.

Spay or neuter your pet, get them their shots, and love them.

Now help me name this one so he can be a spoiled little poophead like the rest of my lazy family. Its clear he has already moved in.

  3. Stefanie says:

Aww…I’m so happy that you’re keeping him! :) He’s a very lucky kitty. I like the name Archangel since you’re taking him in and that’s one thing he really needs….an angel to take him in and care and love him.

*Hope you’re havin fun w/ Charlotte this week! Miss ya!

  4. I love your kitty stories! Thank you both for giving these lovely orphaned cats a loving home. It drives me crazy that so many people consider pets to be disposable items…I just don’t understand. We really do need to build stronger education programs to teach about kindness to animals, the necessity for spay/neuter, responsible pet care – and these need to be started at a very early age.

Whatever you name him, he is a handsome boy and very lucky to have found you!

    I think you are wonderful.

  6. So glad “Gutter Kitty” (we voted for Pepper) has a home. A friend asked if we could help find him a home so we posted on him yesterday and then posted today that he is being adopted and will be vetted. We hope you will be blessed for your kindness to the various kitties.

  10. Caroline says:

Trisha, you are wonderful. I am pledging you $25 to go towards his $400 vet bill. You are giving a pet a loving home and also, by fixing him, you are preventing dozens (or more) homeless cats being born into the world. This one act of goodness will pay immeasurable dividends. Will email you. Anyone else want to help? Even $5 will help!

    • Trisha-admin says:

thankyou caroline. The bill ( i went in today) is actually just over $300 to fix his wound, all the medications, get his tests, fixed, etc. He is only 5 and a half months old the dr said. He is a sweet baby. He was sweet at the vet and sat there while they shaved him and everything. Amazing.

      Thanks for your donation. :-)

And i may have found a little volunteering through all this too w/ picture taking for shelter animals!

      • Caroline says:

OMG taking pictures would be great! I have heard that is super helpful because good photos showcase the pets better and increases adoptions. GO YOU!

  11. mmj says:

I like Gutter. I think you should stick with that.

  12. Katie says:

I love you for doing this, Trisha :)
