Gutter Kitty needs a name.
We are taking him the dr tomorrow cause he is wounded and someone has to help him. I honestly don’t have this cash in the budget at all, I mean getting him fixed, getting him shots, treating his injury…..but DH and I have a long history of saving pets and we cant turn our backs.
When DH and I moved in together in college, we adopted Sebastian from the Human Society. Someone had dropped him off because they were “moving”. He was our first pet together and has had one surgery on his head and one amputation. He is also a little nuts and I could kill him some days. Most days. But he is ours.
Then we adopted “little kitty” from the paper. He was a wild kitty..he is still pretty wild 10 years later. Someone found him and trapped him. The dr told us he was a she and we named her Alexandria. Then we found out she was a he when we went to get him fixed… so we shortened it to Alex. But by that point we had spent so much time saying “come here little kitty” since he was nervous, that his name became little kitty.
He has major middle child syndrome and will pee on your stuff if he is mad at you.
Years passed and a cat showed up at our door (at our apartment in college) and decided we were in his house and he would curl up on our couch at night and run the streets during the day. We named him Enigma. Then he showed up one morning almost falling over. We took him to the vet and he was dying from Feline AIDS and we had to put him to sleep. It was horrifying. We loved him in the few weeks he made himself a part of our home. We had him cremated and he has been with us since.
(no pic available)
Not weeks later Napoleon came to us as a kitten. The irresponsible pet owners downstairs let their cat get pregnant, threw her outside to have the babies, then moved, took the mama and left the kittens abandoned. We only found the one kitten from the litter. We were also pretty sure the father of the kitten was the cat we had to put down. It comforted us. I trapped the kitten in a cage by luring him with Chinese food. DH will never let me live it down. Napoleon remains our sweetest (and largest at almost 20 pounds) cat and also our biggest baby.
After we got out of college and got married, we moved to Texas and my DH brought home an abused Siamese that was at Petsmart. She had been removed from her home for animal cruelty and the dogs had been taught to attack her. She had a nervous condition and pulled her fur out for years. In fact, she didn’t come out from under our bed (literally) for two years straight. It was through DHs love and patience that made her ultimately enjoy her days out with us where she passed last year due to Kidney failure. She lived almost 8 (happy) years in our home.
Her name was Mei Sei Mae.
2 years ago we got our last cat (ha!), Paprika, from a trailer on the side of the road here in Alabama. There was a sign that always said “Free kittens”…no matter what time of the year. I made DH stop and he knew what he was in for, no matter what he says. We stopped and brought home my sweet doll baby Paprika. She is our only female cat. She likes to carry around plastic.
Now this new cat has entered our lives. Someone abandoned him in our neighborhood and we can’t turn away.
I only say all this to remind everyone, please care for the pets you take in. ALL of our pets are rescues. They are not things you can throw away or give up. They are commitments. They live full lives. The provide happiness and love, but they need health care, food, affection, and time.
We are currently caring for OTHER peoples responsibilities. They are our joy, but they all should have been someone elses joy.
Spay or neuter your pet, get them their shots, and love them.
Now help me name this one so he can be a spoiled little poophead like the rest of my lazy family. Its clear he has already moved in.
[poll id="132"]

Awww he is very, very handsome! I am the same way – I take pity on any poor kitty soul that wanders through my yard!
Okay, I voted but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Gutter!
Aww…I’m so happy that you’re keeping him!
He’s a very lucky kitty. I like the name Archangel since you’re taking him in and that’s one thing he really needs….an angel to take him in and care and love him.
*Hope you’re havin fun w/ Charlotte this week! Miss ya!
I love your kitty stories! Thank you both for giving these lovely orphaned cats a loving home. It drives me crazy that so many people consider pets to be disposable items…I just don’t understand. We really do need to build stronger education programs to teach about kindness to animals, the necessity for spay/neuter, responsible pet care – and these need to be started at a very early age.
Whatever you name him, he is a handsome boy and very lucky to have found you!

I think you are wonderful.
So glad “Gutter Kitty” (we voted for Pepper) has a home. A friend asked if we could help find him a home so we posted on him yesterday and then posted today that he is being adopted and will be vetted. We hope you will be blessed for your kindness to the various kitties.
LOL awe come on Trisha… Gutter is a cute name. You can call him Gutty for short! =]
Okay, I voted but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Gutter!
Okay, I voted, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Gutter.
Trisha, you are wonderful. I am pledging you $25 to go towards his $400 vet bill. You are giving a pet a loving home and also, by fixing him, you are preventing dozens (or more) homeless cats being born into the world. This one act of goodness will pay immeasurable dividends. Will email you. Anyone else want to help? Even $5 will help!
thankyou caroline. The bill ( i went in today) is actually just over $300 to fix his wound, all the medications, get his tests, fixed, etc. He is only 5 and a half months old the dr said. He is a sweet baby. He was sweet at the vet and sat there while they shaved him and everything. Amazing.
Thanks for your donation.
And i may have found a little volunteering through all this too w/ picture taking for shelter animals!
OMG taking pictures would be great! I have heard that is super helpful because good photos showcase the pets better and increases adoptions. GO YOU!
I like Gutter. I think you should stick with that.
im not calling this poor cat gutter. LOL
Well, I think it’s cute and a unique name! The other ones are cute too, so don’t think you can go wrong with whatever you pick.
I love you for doing this, Trisha
I like Beretta. He’s such a deep gray color!
The street we found him on was cross street with Beretta…thats where it came from.
It is nice of you to take him in – I chose Bastet, but like others have said, I like GK, Gutter, or my idea to maybe cutsify it and call him Gutsy.
Phukat. Because when he pisses or throws up on something, you can say PHUKAT! LOL
PS: It only let me pick one name.
How could you not love such a sweet boy. I voted Pepper & berretta ( was that Chris?) I tried thing of something blue, but all I could think of was nino azul ( blue boy) pepper azul?? it comes in lots of colors, LOL!
I’m team Gutter Kitty all the way so very happy to hear this news.
I was going to suggest GK for Gutter Kitty.
Abandoned animals are the worst thing a human can do and I really wish there was some way to catch them and punish them more than a slap on the wrist of a fine. My dog wondered into a friends yard as a stray. He’s missing an eye, some teeth and needed surgery to repair damage from being hit or kicked. It took three years of behavioral rehabilitation for him to be the confident goofball he is now who loves to have his photo taken. He’s more popular on my blog than I am
I have mad respect for those that do this! My good friend is all about saving animals and it is stories like this that warm my heart.
I am so a cat person. If I could (can’t have pets where we live) I would have about 10 by now. Dogs for me are too much work and I want a yard that I don’t have to clean up before my kids go out and play. Cats have a litter box. As soon as I can I am heading to a shelter to rescue me a cat, preferably black and white like my best cat friend Buster that I had as a child.
That is so great Trisha…we have taken in two cats over the years due to this…gets very costly. I like Pepper and Archangel
Just call him Gutter! Lol. I like Lucifer (personally) but that isn’t an option. Archangel would fit! =]
This is a really great post. When I worked at the vet it was just heartbreaking to see so many “unplanned pregnancies” of puppies and kittens coming in almost daily. It was exhausting and gut wrenching trying to find homes for them all.
Kudos to you for all of your rescues.
I like Beretta – and I’m glad gutter kitty is staying, he’s most precious and I can’t wait to hear all about him!
My stepdaughter had a cat named Pepper and loves that name!
So you have five cats? I think that officially makes you a creepy cat lady. lmao
But only ONE child , so i think im still better off.
I think I’ll keep the five kids and you can have the five cats. lol I’d change diapers the rest of my life over dealing with a litter box. Ick.
Thats why I got married. LOL!
PEPPER PEPPER PEPPER – It’s the right thing to do!
thats charlottes name..so she will be happy if that takes over. LOL!
I wish there were more people like you in this world. I can’t stand when people take on the responsibility of a pet and then bail. I’m currently taking care of my ex-husband’s dog. Don’t ask…long story. I couldn’t stand the thought of the dog being in a dog daycare for months while he was out of town.
and I’m not a dog person, this is a REALLY big thing for me.
Catmandu…best name for a cat. EVER.
Your a good woman Trisha…I think Pepper is a great name NO MATTER IF CATMANDU IS VOTED FOR THE MOST!
He’s such a sweetie <3
I still like gutter kitty. LOL
Glad he has found a good home.
It makes me so happy you’re giving him a home Trisha. I still miss my Oscar every single day. I just wish I was closer and I’d totally take him in and love him.
Just visit a lot..i need a bigger paycheck to cover this $400 its going to cost. Sigh.
