How Charlotte Sleeps in the Car

When Charlotte was a baby she wanted a blanket OVER her head when she went to bed. You have no idea the sleepless nights I had over this habit. I thought for sure she was going to suffocate and die when I wasn’t looking and I would be all over the news for shoddy parenting.

But she would not sleep unless a blanket was covering her head. I really should pull up some old baby pictures of it.

While she doesn’t still do that at night, she still carries this habit into the car.

Check it out…here she is sleeping the other day on the way out of town.

  1. That is hilarious! My kids sleep in odd places too.

  2. MY 4 yr old used to do that. I hated it. I think I screamed and ranted so much he finally stopped. LOL

what size shoe does your daughter wear?

  3. Alexandra says:

that is awesome!!!!! at least yours will sleep….we wake up really in the morning to drive places hoping our son will fall asleep but he stays awake the whole time grrrr

  4. My boys had to have a blanket with silkie edges and then had to have the silkie part either between their fingers, toes, or the little one liked it behind his ear.

My little one is like that. FREAKED me out all the time! Plus-he always slept better on his tummy.

  6. Shannon says:

Haha too cute! My kids sleep all sorts of weird.

  7. Lucy says:

Wow that is interesting and cute. My kid is starting to sleepwalk.

  8. omg – I’d be freaking out, checking on her breathing every 30 seconds!

My kids have a habit of needing to sleep with 53 blankets on their beds. WTF? I can barely stand a sheet. Sometimes I think they were switched at birth.

  9. My tween sleeps under a mound of stuffed animals including a 3-4 feet long stuffed snow leopard. It takes up most of her bed.

  10. Maybe she just can’t sleep when so much light is pouring in! You should get her an eye mask for the car! LOL

  11. Rob says:

LOL. That is funny. No funny habits but Shae needs to be covered with 2-3 blankets before she will go to bed.

  12. Lisa says:

My niece sleeps the same way! She likes to be all cozy and covered. My sister uses a Comfort Silkie security blanket that is lightweight and breathable. Her doctor told her about it. Here’s a link: http://bit.ly/SecurityBlanket

  13. Jenny Ronimous says:

My daughter also wanted the blanket over her head. I finally took a light weight small stuffed animal and would place it over her eyes. It did the trick so I didn’t worry as much. I’m just as amazed that Charlotte sleeps with her legs crossed in the car.

That’s too cute! My kid has lots of odd, unexplainable habits…but he’s autistic so I guess that explains a few of ‘em!

Maybe Charlotte needs the peace and quiet of being under a blanket – kinda like wearing an eye mask, only bigger?! :D

  15. Stefanie says:

My friends daughter used to do the same thing as a baby and it always scared the crap out of me when I would watch her.

When my youngest was a baby she would always have a blanket on her cheek. Now that she’s a little older she sleeps with her elephant in her hand, holding it by its tail and sucking her thumb that is holding the elephant. She always sleeps this way I think because she is very sensory and likes to smell the elephant while she sleeps.
