A couple weeks back, I was walking to the car, and saw about a 9 month PG women, standing near her car, chatting on her cell phone, full on smoking a cigarette. I cant even stand SMELLING cigarette smoke walking by. I completly cringed thinking of her being PG there.
Would you have said something? Do you think its abuse or neglect to smoke while you are PG?
I once was a smoker too before I had children. I can’t imagine smoking while being pregnant. What I’ve seen that really gets me is people that smoke inside their cars with infants inside!!!!!! That makes me crazy.
I think it qualifies for both : abuse and neglect. Truthfully I would have been extremely upset, but I wouldn’t have said anything.
I would have not said something to her…But I would have made a comment loud enough for her to hear me. (that’s the way i am) Something along the line of “What a freaking a**, that poor baby”.
I’m pregnant and I get sooo mad seeing people do it! And I also get mad when people light up in front of me!!! Iowa just passed a public smoking ban and you have no idea how happy I am that they did!
Depending on if she looked like someone who would want to start a fist fight or not, I would have either said it to her or said it loud enough that she could hear to my kid don’t you ever do that it’s wrong! If I was on my phone I would have said OMG guess what I just seen once again loud enough for her to over hear it, the person on the phone would wonder what I was talking about but I would have told them once I was in the car why I all of a sudden yapped about something out of the blue. I think it’s very wrong my hubby smokes,not in my house mind you. He never paid attention to stuff like that before the baby but now if he sees a pregnant woman doing it he gives them a look of utter disgust. That makes me very proud of him! haha

I am not one to interviene, so I prob wouldn’t say anything, but I would prob be talking smack about her under my breath!
I would not have said anything. It is her body and her child. It is not my business. She is fully aware that shouldn’t be smoking. Why the comments of a stranger phase her, when carrying a new life doesn’t?
My friend smoked during pregnancy everyday, she knew I and everyone around her frowned on it and continued. What can you do?
I have big issues with this….After I delivered my daughter I was in the recovery room and the lady next to me was calling for a nurse..When the nurse came back she asked why her baby was shaking (this lady was seriously freaking out) The nurses started scolding her and told her that her baby wont stop shaking because you smoked for your whole pregnancy and the baby needs nicotine….if I could have felt my legs I seriously would have kicked her hard! My sister in law smokes as well and just found out she is pregnant but is refusing to stop smoking…Arg!!!!
I hate seeing it, I feel bad for the low birth weight baby when it’s born. Hoping it will survive.

I would have stuck a bag over her head and told her to start smoking then. That is what it is like for the baby. Oh and the bag would have been one of those draw string bags so the only “air” she was breathing was that second hand smoke.
How incredibly selfish. I would have felt like B-slapping her!
I use to smoke, but like a lot of Moms, quit smoking when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I have not smoked for 30 months now. I have to admit, quitting was one of the hardest things I’ve had yet to do. Smoking is a hard addiction to break that sadly more often than not gets passed down to your children, who in turn smoke. My husband still smokes however he is not allowed to smoke in the house nor the car. Smoke isn’t allowed around my children. While I know it is on his clothes, I try my best to keep it away from our kids.
I’ve seen many pregnant moms smoke, have friends who have done it and their children are healthy. But that does not mean it is right.
When I got PG with my first I was a smoker. I tried to quit cold turkey the day I found out but it didn’t happen. I was aprox 16 weeks when I woke up one morning FINALLY able to not smoke anymore. I still regret not being strong enough to do it cold turkey.
I also know that there is a new “movement” so to speak among doctors who are telling pregnant women they do not have to quit, that quitting in the first trimester will cause miscarrage chances to drastically improve since the body is so used to the nicotine. I personally think it is a bunch of BS but I know personally 3 people where I live that were told that.
Oh and I would not say something, I would simply roll my eyes. (hypocrite I know)
My mother smoked when she was pregnant with me and my sister (although this was 42 and 39 years ago, but still) and I think it is horrendous. It is just another form of child abuse to me and you know that person is going to continue smoking around their child for the rest of their lives. I can’t stand seeing people smoking with their kid in the car either, it doesn’t matter how much you crack the window (like my mother used to), it is horrible, smelly, disgusting and your children will smell of smoke wherever they go and you will never realize this because it is the only smell that fills your nostrils so you are used to it!
Can you tell this subject bothers me?!
I was once a smoker. I quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant. I’ve been smoke free for 9 years, 5 months and some odd days. It is still the very most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life. But I don’t miss a minute of it.
It really makes me furious when I see a pregnant lady smoking, that child doesn’t have a choice, the mom is making the choice for them…and it’s not a good one.
It also annoys the crap outta me when I see parents smoking in the car with little kids.
I wouldn’t say anything… but it would miff me. One more “thing” on why they could get pregnant and not someone who would take care of herself/baby from the get go.
I saw a pregnant woman smoking one time. I didn’t say anything but I was thinkin’ “selfish bit*h”.

I wouldn’t have said anything in fear of getting jumped but it makes me sad. I think it is very selfish on their part too. They know that smoking is bad for them so why would they put their child in danger. I sometimes wonder what people are thinking.
WHAT??? Are you serious? I would have not said a thing but I would have given her “the look”
