How NOT to win a contest.

contestA blogging friend of mine recently was telling us about an email she received from a winner on her site. She had notified (either on her blog or via email) the prize winners and one of them emailed her claiming her prize. The blogger wrote back and asked her what prize since it was not stated in the email.

I think that’s a fair question. I get about 50 emails a day and if someone emailed me with “i am claiming my prize” my instinct would be to email back and say “which prize did you win?”. Emails and names don’t always match up to online entries, etc so you cant just assume.

Well, this is the email she got back from the claimer:

(Blogger, name removed)

You have not sent me the prize or a prize?I can’t believe it.You don’t know what i won?I can’t believe it.How should i know what i won when you never told me in any of the e-mails.Looking back at old e-mails all you said( i was a winner_.If you can’t remember what the prize was please send me something else of equal value.I’v never run into complications like this with other contests i won.I can’t believe it.Do you not keep records of who won what, outgong and incoming?Good thing i keep my e-mails as recorded info.Would dates of January 16 not joggle your memory of what i won.I generally respond instantly when i win something so i would look at your e-mails sent at that timeline or contest prizes. You have my mailing address please send me a nice prize to compensate for this aggrevation.
Thank you

The best part of this is that the winner didn’t even fulfill the correct requirements of the contest TO win after Blogger looked into it.

Oh, and the prize she won?

A toothbrush.

I think I would clean my toilet with it before I sent it to her.

    @ Miranda:
True! I have been LOL….I just recently caught that she wasn’t being honest with her entries. That bugs me…A LOT.

    @ VictoriaArya:

Next time just press the nifty little trash button next to her comments LOL If she can’t be nice just because you asked a question she definitely doesn’t need to be entering your giveaways if she can’t follow the rules anyways!

Man, the cajones on that one!

Sorry you had to deal with that, Victoria. It makes sense that you might not know what she won, considering it was FIVE weeks ago!

  4. VictoriaArya says:

how do you get 800 emails a day???? Holy Cr*p.

If anyone is interested I would be more than happy to give the username…but not here…DM me in the forum or on twitter or email or whatever :-)

Yeah rude ppl suck. Between this lady and the etsy people I am going to have to write a post about all the rudeness…hey maybe I will put up a page on my site for the WARNINGS…listing all the rude people I and others have encountered…so everyone can stay away from them LOL…I kind of like that idea :-D

  7. Now my bloggy spidey senses are tingling…I have had 2 winners in the past claim they didn’t get their prize, even though it was tracked and said it went to them (not signed for though).
what if there is a whole network of scamming giveaway winner people?
Now I really want to know who it was (the douche, I mean. BTW, Lisa it is like my favorite insult).

  8. tee hee… That’s great!! Rude people annoy me.

If only everyone understood the complexity of maintaining a great blog, especially a blog that has giveaways. And once they accomplish that, it would be great to see some gratitude. That response was beyond rude, in my estimation.

I’ve been very lucky to have such eager, happy recipients of my giveaways. With responses like the one above, I can see where you’d think twice about having more giveaways. Very sad.

LMAO that word is hawt lately .. been using it myself lately, sister called me and used it, too. Thought it was some strange kismet/sister thing, but here you are using it too! Hmm… lol

  15. Trish says:

Um. Wow. You think they’d be grateful for what they won, not acting like this. i can’t believe they demanded to be sent a prize that was of equal value.

  16. OMG so wait… this “winner” contacts you all pissed off because you didn’t send her what he/she won, lectures you about being responsible, but signed for the item? LOL! POT CALLIN’ THE KETTLE, dontcha think???

Or was the toothbrush not enough for her, she had to come back beggin’ for more? Jerk! With a capital J!

You should offer this persons email to those who do giveaways, on the sly, in case this person is indeed some scammer who may have pulled one over on other bloggers like this. Or maybe a database somewhere of this, or something.

    *hugs* Victoria. Sheesh!

  17. What a douche.

  18. Wow, what a b*tch! I don’t understand people like that.

  19. Trisha-admin says:

I didnt want to use your name w/o your permission. She signed for the prize? LOL! Loving it.

  20. VictoriaArya says:

Oh, I don’t care you didn’t have to remove my name.

    AN UPDATE:

The PR rep who sent the toothbrush not only had it tracked but made it need to be signed for…WHICH IT WAS. Yeah, uhhuh it was signed for and still she comes to me. Blah.
