How NOT to win a contest.

contestA blogging friend of mine recently was telling us about an email she received from a winner on her site. She had notified (either on her blog or via email) the prize winners and one of them emailed her claiming her prize. The blogger wrote back and asked her what prize since it was not stated in the email.

I think that’s a fair question. I get about 50 emails a day and if someone emailed me with “i am claiming my prize” my instinct would be to email back and say “which prize did you win?”. Emails and names don’t always match up to online entries, etc so you cant just assume.

Well, this is the email she got back from the claimer:

(Blogger, name removed)

You have not sent me the prize or a prize?I can’t believe it.You don’t know what i won?I can’t believe it.How should i know what i won when you never told me in any of the e-mails.Looking back at old e-mails all you said( i was a winner_.If you can’t remember what the prize was please send me something else of equal value.I’v never run into complications like this with other contests i won.I can’t believe it.Do you not keep records of who won what, outgong and incoming?Good thing i keep my e-mails as recorded info.Would dates of January 16 not joggle your memory of what i won.I generally respond instantly when i win something so i would look at your e-mails sent at that timeline or contest prizes. You have my mailing address please send me a nice prize to compensate for this aggrevation.
Thank you

The best part of this is that the winner didn’t even fulfill the correct requirements of the contest TO win after Blogger looked into it.

Oh, and the prize she won?

A toothbrush.

I think I would clean my toilet with it before I sent it to her.

Hang in there, Victoria (I found a Kleenex), fortunately, not many winners share her attitude, or her stupidity. Keep the giveaways coming and I’ll send you a big kiss & hug if I win anything, LOL!

LOL, LOL, LOL! Trisha, you crack me up! Unfortunately, I read your last comment while drinking water and it came out my nose! Ouch! But you know what? I whole-heartedly agree with you. What an ungrateful reader. I don’t think the giveaway blog site asked for her opinion, just her mailing address! Some people, I tell ya! (I’m still laughing over your last comment) LOL I’ve got to go and get a Kleenex now, LOL!

    LOL That’s a riot!

  6. Thao says:

What a horrible, ugly attitude. I would use the toothbrush to clean more than the toilet.

  7. Laura says:

That’s the rudest thing I’ve heard in a long time. What a &#*!

  9. judy brittle says:

My goodness! How rude. I am totally thrilled to see any winning email
and would wait to see what I won. Or I just back track to the giveaways and try to guess. It’s all fun and exciting. She must not like to win.

  10. Kimberly says:

WOW! That’s so crazy. And over a toothbrush? I’m glad she keeps good records. I don’t. I figure any prizes I get are just great and I don’t worry about the ones that never make it.

What a complete idiot! I have a saying…”Why isn’t it legal to kill (or maim) The Free Range Stupid?”

  16. VictoriaArya says:

Yeah, this totally wasn’t the sponsor’s fault. It was delivered to and signed for by someone in HER family…so yeah she’s just being a zitch.

  17. Angie says:

    Whoa. Over a toothbrush? Crazy.

The worst is when sponsors don’t follow through. I won a prize months ago (on another blog) and have heard nothing but excuses from the sponsor. I gave up ever seeing that prize.

  18. Naomi says:

Wow, that is impressive! I have had a couple of blog giveaway wins that never showed up and a couple of sponsor finks who have left me to pony up a prize since I would not shaft a winner. It sucks but what can you do? Some people are just jerks.

I think you should have printed her name, since most of us who host giveaways would probably recognize it…

  19. susan says:

    Oh brother, some people….sheeeesh!!

  20. Jamaise says:

What a freakin twit! She’d NEVER win another contest at my blog – giveaways are extra & supposed to be fun. Yikes!

Do toothbrushes fit where the sun don’t shine????
