About 6 weeks ago this weird thing started happening. It was like my heart was skipping a beat. It only happens for a millisecond and this is hard to explain, but its like the wind is knocked out of me for a millisecond.
Before my brain barely registers it, its over.
Then I started to notice that it was doing it right after I had caffeine. At least that was when it seemed to be more frequent or I was just picking it up more.
But I haven’t had any caffeine today and it just did it.
I know that no one here is a dr. but any idea what this sounds like? If I have to stop drinking Coke, I might as well kill myself now.

Trisha, I just read all the comments, it sounds exactly like what I had, which was either anxiety, or mitral valve prolapse, either of which arent life threatening, AT ALL & the symptoms can be eased with beta blockers ( for the heart if it is a heart thing) or.. valium.. lol
((hugs)) My heart would skip, I’d lose my breath, then losing my breath would set the panic in which made it even worse!! It sounds exactly like what I just dealt with ( I think I even blogged about it!!!) Just get in to your family doc to start!!!
Most everyone has PCVs, your heart skips a beat or one side is *off* for a beat and the other side of your heart jumps in to make up for it ( a good thing) some people are very sensitive to it. Others are not.
You should ask to be checked for mitral valve prolapse. I recently was, as were my mom & sister. It can be genetic, it isnt life threatening, dont worry. Some people are just very sensitive to it & beta blockers can help with the symptoms(like the feelings, or pain, etc), but caffeine, even chocolate can make it more noticable to those who are sensitive to it.
I recently spent some time in the ER, hospital & cardiac wing trying to find out what was wrong with my ticker, I have occasional sharp pains under my ribs, you can SEE my heart beat through my chest, it skips beats, etc etc etc and it turns out after an Echocardiogram, I just needed a valium =X
Its SUPER common & most people dont even notice these things, so tell your doctor & they will get you in for an Echo ( ultrasound of the heart) and that will be able to tell if there is anything, or if your just sensitive enough to notice your PVCs, or perhaps even need a beta blocker.
Email me if you want, I JUST went through all of this last month!!

drink caffeine free coke instead, it could possibly be a heart murmer which is a tiny hole in the heart. my sister has had one since she was a baby and she’s just fine, its never come into play in her life, except at the dentist, before they do any dental work including a cleaning, she needs to take antibiotics for a day to prevent any possible infection that could spread to her heart. My boyfriend and his brother have a heart murmer too. a simple EKG will tell. they just stick these small stickers all over your chest and measure your hearts activity.
I can not guess what it is, but I get that also when I am stressed or busy, even when I don’t think I am stressed, it seems to last for a few days after I have been in a flighty mood. But better safe than sorry and I would go check it out with a doctor!
I HAD WHAT YOU ARE DESCRIBING IN MY LATE 20′S AND WAS TOLD IT WAS, NERVES, STRESS, ALL IN MY HEAD, CAFFEINE. I WAS PRESCRIBED VALIUM. WELL, THAT NEVER HELPED THE ARYTHYMIA. MY HEART WAS STILL SKIPPING BEATS, ETC. SEVERAL YEARS LATER I WAS DRIVING WITH MY LITTLE ONES IN THE CAR AND WHEN IT STARTED I ALMOST PASSED OUT. THAT DID IT! I FINALLY GOT TO A GREAT CARDIOLOGIST, HAD TESTS AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A PROLAPSD MITRAL VALVE. THIS IS ALSO CONNECTED WITH PANIC ATTACKS! AND THIS IS VERY COMMON IN YOUNG WOMEN! IT USED TO BE CALLED A HEART MURMUR. BUT WITH MEDICATION IT STOPPED. THE ONLY TIME I NOTICE IT IS IF I HAVE A LOT OF GAS IN MY STOMACH OR TOO MUCH CAFFEINE. I’M NOW 59, STILL ON MEDICATION BUT I’M FINE. I URGE YOU TO AT LEAST GET CHECKED. THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF IRREGULAR HEARTBEATS-SOME MORE SERIOUS THAN OTHERS! I HOPE THIS HAS HELPED A LITTLE.
Yes I’ve had those too.
One late evening it was so fluttery I almost went
to the hospital.
It is common I guess.
But it eventually passed as it lasted for about 2 months,
the skips. No problems now. Hope yours goes away too.
I even had the heart monitor on and they said I was fine.
Sounds like a panic attack…or anxiety attack. I have them alot it feels like a heart attack at its worst! HUGS, take it easy and slow down.
Well, I’m going to say the same thing all other 32 said. I just had tests run for the same thing a couple of months ago & it’s perfectly normal. Lots of women have a “puppy” heart that flutters. Harmless. The more I thought about it the worse it got, anxiety. So, check it out for peace of mind, but welcome to the club! ~wink~

Hi there-
I have the EXACT same thing…Commenter #20 described it very well. I also went thru all the testing, stress test, holter monitor, etc, and I managed to capture one of them on the monitor…they called it a “benign extra beat”. Not at all serious, but ALWAYS alarming. When I have a big one, I just have this feeling of dread thinking…”Oh God…is this it…”
Actually, it is quite good for reminding me to Carpe Diem.
Get it checked out anyway!!
And best of luck to you!!

I get those too–I think they are just palpitations–my doc has never mentioned anything when she listens to my heart during exams so I figure it’s not big deal. I would still get checked out though
I get them all the time and have been checked out. It turns out I was high sensitive to caffeine. That, and if I am stressed I get them. For peace of mind you can get it checked out. You can still have coke, just buy caffeine free
Can you feel the heartbeat skip and then catch up? If so, then you may have a syndrome called QRS SYndrome. You need to have an EKG regardless, just to be sure. Please go to the doctor.

When was the last time you had a physical? They could have bloodwork done and check a few things including your thyroid levels.
Its a heart palpatation.
I have those all the time with my LD.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s anything to be worried about.
If you get a good magnesium supplement, it should help.
Hope this helps! If you have any more questions, go ahead and email me

i’ve been getting this lately too, but I read that it is common during pregnancy. whew! It certainly is a scary feeling.
I get this sometimes and to me it and I explained it to my Dr like this…sometimes my heart feels like it just feel out of my body, like I jumped off a high dive. She told me that it was anxiety, and to watch the caffine intake and try to do somethings to relieve stress. When she said that I had to try not to laugh in her face, relieve stress, yea right.
Heart palpitations are very common. I get them when I lay down to go to sleep at night. It could be from stress or the caffeine. You should go to the doctor and have an EKG done at least. It can’t hurt to be on the safe side.
I have heart palpatations too…i’ve been checked out with EKG’s and Holter monitors but it never amounts to anything. I’d get checked out just in case!!
this happens to me when I go through periods of stress. I thought something was definitely wrong with me. the doctor told me years ago it is common. I’d talk to him…people often experience the skipping and it’s no big deal. sometimes it almost feels like you are floating for a second…really weird.
I’m sure it’s nothing tho…but def see the doctor…I always like to get their opinion…
Oh! Have your BP checked too. I’m on a BP med and the arrythmias have lessened a bit.
