I always wash the laundry.
I hate, hate, HATE to fold it. It actually sits so long in the baskets that it piles up until every pair of underwear in the house is in there and we are forced to put it away. Generally my Dh is the first one to cave and fold. I would rather by new stuff than fold laundry.
I have a strong will.
Earlier today I asked him to change the washer clothes to the dryer; which he did. While he was switching them, he found a $5 bill in the washing machine.
Then he said he would be doing more laundry from now on since he found money. Although annoyed, I let him have it…even though TECHNICALLY it should have been mine since I asked him to switch it. (Rule: Whoever does the laundry gets to keep the money they find in it).
So the day goes on, I switch the laundry, run another load, throw clean laundry in infamous pile and he starts to fold it.
And finds a $10 bill.
WTF!!!!
Now he is walking around here like he won the lotto and stuck them both in his wallet.
Whose laundry money is it?

It’s BOTH Of yours!
Its totally his money. I’d tell him to keep the money… its the payment for folding all the laundry in your house.
The most I ever find is a quarter. Definitely not worth my time! I’d say if he’s willing to fold the laundry let him have it! Heck, I would start planting money in the laundry just to keep him motivated!!
@ Trisha-admin:
Maybe you should by me fingers that type well
I would tell him he can keep the money if he folds all of the laundry.
I have to say that it is his money. I’d be ticked off and eventually my husband would give it to me, or I’d just go spend it out of our account, but in this case, he was doing the actual work when the money presented itself. Even if he was doing your work for the $5.

maybe you should take the money and buy a name that is spelled right.
I would just like to point out that the $5 became family money when my wife took it from me and bought a funnel cake at the flea market.
The money is yours!! I just want to know how in the heck you got DH to do it. Mine refuses to do almost anything in the house, I think he would walk around naked or in dirty clothes…lol
I can totally identify with the entire post.. except for the money part.. we are broke! Anyway.. I hate to say it.. but the money is all his! Seriously.. it is worth $15 to me for my husband .. or anyone for that matter to do the laundry!
umm its mine!
I do the laundry, even though i take forever to finally fold it- but if i find anything more than a 5, and i know its for DH ill let him kno im taking it! lol But in this case, im going to say finders keepers
If it helps, we simplified our laundry process by doing this..
Tops – all go on hangers (no folding woohoo!)
Bottoms – fold, that’s easy
Socks, bras, undies – all go in a laundry basket that eventually gets migrated to our bedroom to be tossed in a drawer
Geez, i never find money! can I come wash at your house??
In our home we rarely have cash so we can always easily figure out who’s money it was and we hand it over. But if it’s up in the air as to who’s it is I say finder’s keepers. Although I did like the suggestion above to randomly hide cash in the laundry to get hubby to do it! LoL
I would have to say finders keepers. My 10 year old is famous for finding money during the changeover. You know taking the clothes out the dryer, and putting the clothes from the washer into the dryer. I agree with you on the clean laundry pile up. I have tried that putting on the bed technique. I am guilty of just moving it to the chair. Would you believe as I am writing this comment there is a pile of clothes on the couch behind me?
I think it should go to whomever’s clothes it came from
I don’t really have an answer for you because we don’t find money in our laundry, lol. We rarely have cash and I watch mine like a hawk!
Good luck on figuring this out, lol!

I kid you not, I would just throw it all on the chair and go to bed…. ha ha ha!
Glad it works for you though
Trish, I never have this problem…. my DH never touches the laundry…
I do however have a solution for the “laundry build-up”…
I grew up in a home with a mother who HATED to do laundry. Swore I would NEVER let my house get like my moms did… My solution is to fold our clothes on our master bed. They come out of the dryer and go straight on the bed. That way they HAVE to get folded before we can go to bed. Normally I do this while watching something on TV.
It works for me, but then our washer and dryer are upstairs with all of the bedrooms too! Our children are older and know to pick up the folded clothes off of the dryer and put them away! (another pet peeve – leaving them out!)
Just a personal tip… hope it helps!
Sorry about your loss of money!
I do all the washing usually. We both use the money I find. Most of the time its just change. I say you both should get some of it.
I agree with PP. Doing laundry isn’t just washing and drying, the actual act of “doing laundry” includes the whole process. LOL.

Finders keepers losers weepers. HAHAH. Just kidding!

i think your right. This seems fair. So the 5 is MINE becuase i washed and the 10 is his cause he folded.
It should go into a emergency fund money jar, for the whole families benefit. Then one day if you have an emergency you weren’t expecting and the money is not there to take care of it, you raid the emergency fund to help you pay for that unexpected emergency. You should have a list in the jar what does not constitute an emergency though, so the whole family knows and doesn’t think it can be spent on stupid not really necessary stuff.
If you don’t like that idea, then maybe it could become the Christmas Gift Jar where found money goes. It could help you pay for Christmas presents.
