I smell like death

[private]

Very literally.

Today on the way back from the airport, i noticed a large dead kitty hit in the middle of the highway. He was hit, but not splattered, if you know what i mean. Unfortunately he was definitely dead. But my heart cant take seeing dead kitties on the road. It makes me overwhelmingly sad. It was RIGHT in front of Charlotte’s gymnastics studio to top it off, so i knew when i picked her up i would see it again if no one got it.

That afternoon I came back…cat still there.

So I got a garbage bag and played dodge ball in the highway and went and picked him up.

But then it hits me. The smell of death. I started gagging, then throwing up. Somehow in the process of putting the kitty in the bag, some sort of kitty blood got on my hand and I saw it and started freaking out. I ran into a local restaurant and kept washing and washing and washing and retching.

I got home, took a shower, changed clothes, put on 1 oz of perfume. I can still smell it. My throat keeps closing and I start to gag when I think about it.

At least the kitty got a burial. It was devastating. Sniff.

  1. You rock! I don’t think I could have done that… You know, several days before my baby was born this armadillo was road kill and I’ve never seen an armadillo so my hubby offered to pull over so I could check it out. I didn’t get death juice on me though.

  2. Stefanie says:

Oh yuck!!! *gag* I don’t think I could have ever done that! Blek…

  3. Amy says:

Bless you for your bravery. I couldn’t have stomached it.

  4. Wow Trisha! I don’t think I would have the stomach to do that. You’re stronger than me!

  5. Jennifer G. says:

Wow, you are brave and have a very kind heart!

  6. I’m so sorry! I couldn’t have done it… and now I know I’ll never try…

but you are AWESOME for doing it. :-)

  7. whew, that’s a doozy of a story. and sort of, gross and frightening at the same time. you probably don’t smell like death, but your brain has been stained for a moment by the trauma! i’ve never wanted to scoop up a dead animal from the road. now, not only do i not want to pick it up, but i don’t want to see any, for fear of remembering this post, and thinking of what it may smell like!

  8. Firefly says:

Poor Kitty. That is so bad :( I don’t think I could do it!

  9. Laurie says:

Awww, I hate when I see dead animals, it makes me incredibly sad

  10. Aww, poor kitty. At least you cared enough to do something. Your a good Mommy.

  11. Aw man. Sorry. I really hate seeing anything dead on the road. Always grosses me out.

  12. Krystyn says:

Poor kitty. He is thanking you from heaven.

  13. Gwenn says:

That’s just horrible. I look away anytime there is a dead animal on the road, but I can’t say I’m brave enough to move any of them. I move turtles that try to cross the road though..

  14. Lori E says:

    You did a good thing.
To get the death smell out of your nose stick in some Vicks Vaporub.
This works when cleaning up puke, crap and other unpleasant, gag inducing things.

  15. Trish says:

Wow, that was brave of you. I honestly would have left it there. Shame on me, i know. :(

  16. Miss Blondie says:

I’m sorry but I’m ROFL!! I’m actually picturing you dodging traffic, puking all while holding a dead kitten. I would have thrown up. Dead kitties are very sad….but not as sad as dead birds ;)

  17. Oh, that sounds awful! So special of you to take care of the poor kitty when nobody else would. But, I would have been throwing up, too.
