Introduce Yourself Day

07 Jan Posted by Trisha-admin in All About Trisha | 44 comments

handshakeI cannot tell you how often I meet someone in the blog world and the conversation goes like this:

Person I don’t know: “OMG! Trisha!! I have been wanting to meet you!!”

Running like a school girl to their arms….giggling. We hold hands and jump up and down.

Me: “OMG! Me too, It’s so wonderful to finally talk to you in person!!! “

(inside my head: Who are you? Shit. Who is this person?! Can I get a look at their name tag? Ask how their kids are. What if they don’t have kids? Quick, Quick, Think!!)

Its the worst feeling in the world when someone recognizes me, probably because of the big ass picture of me on the top of the page, the obnoxious friday night show, and of course all the vanity videos I have spewing my opinion with my face front and center, but I don’t know who they are.

Honestly, a lot of bloggers don’t really put too much info of themselves out there and it can be hard to connect who they are without asking a bunch of questions and feeling embarrassed. I mean, there are only 2093842038423874 mommy bloggers.

Shouldn’t I know them all??

While some women are shy about what they look like, or want to keep their families offline, I think what it truly boils down to is we do a fancy About Me page when we open our blogs, set it, and forget it.

However for a blog to maintain readers, I firmly believe it has to have a personality. And that personality needs a name. I want to know what Kim is doing…not what Accidental Mommies is doing today…make sense?

If we don’t relay ourselves as a real life person to  our new visitors, they may look at us just as another ‘mommy blog’.  I  know that I have been guilty of talking to someone online for months and never knowing their first name.

I’m not sure if that’s their fault or mine.

So many people use their brand name on all aspects of online social media and that doesn’t translate well in a relationship. I can tell you I would much rather hear “Hi, Trisha” than “Hi, MomDot” any day.

By the time you’re six months into blogging, you are most likely so wound up into reviews, giveaways, controversy, obligations, and what you are having for dinner, you may have forgotten that you even have a personal name

Or kids.

So here it is…. I am hosting a Round Robin

Introduce Yourself To Your Neighbor Day.

(or Get to know Your Neighbor Day)

I would love to see some fresh posts introducing yourself, maybe sharing some *new* pictures (none of the ones when you were in high school please, that’s even worse then not knowing your name) and talking about what you do on your blog or your hopes, dreams, and blah blah blah. I don’t care what you say, but for goodness sakes, please tell me your first name so I don’t have to call you by your blog name.

Hi, My name is Trisha. I’m 31. I hate long walks on the beach, movies over 2 hours, and I am freaking awesome.

What more do you need to know?
