It’s faster than I thought…

[private]

jakeMy boy registered for kindergarten today.

I didn’t think it would bother me.  I mean, he went to preschool and he’s 5-1/2 going on 40 and we are soooo much alike that I think a little time apart each day will really be a good thing for us.

But walking into that school today I was hit head-on with the reality that he’s almost half-way to high school.  And Jake took it in stride.  Like his momma you can’t always tell when he’s bubbling over with excitement and what looks like boredom or shyness is often just quiet awe over the potential of it all.

In 4 years I will go through the same thing with Abby and I fear those 4 years will be merely a blink in my mind.

It’s funny how we look forward to the milestones and experiencing life through their eyes, yet when we look back on it we’d turn back time in an instant because we just can’t remember.

Time is a nasty, silent thief.

  1. Your Jake is the same age as my Jake! We had to register many months ago, so I’ve had some time to get used to the idea. I know I’ll still cry and embarrass him the first day I put him on that school bus though.

  2. Oh, I second your sentiment. It goes so quickly! And when you are young time last forever. Remember how long the school year used to feel? Now I’m left wondering how I blinked and we went from spring break to back to school?

I was JUST thinking about this last night as I flipped through some pictures of Kaydee just a year ago. In one itty bitty year she’s become a whole new person…and then my son, my goodness he went from this puffy faced bouncing toddler to a blushing little girl liking young man overnight. It’s not fair.

Time sure does fly. Whenever my kids hit a milestone its such a shocker even though i knew it was coming all along.

I always wonder if kids feel the time passing so quickly like we do as adults. I remember as a kid the day always dragged on and summer vacation took Forever to arrive. Now it just flies by- were almost done with summer.

We were thinking along the same lines the other night when we were talking about our oldest celebrating his 9th birthday this weekend. He’ll be moving out before we know it. So scary!

LOL this gave me a chuckle. I know what you mean though girl, time does fly. Just cherish it all chase your kids around with video cameras and digital cameras until they can lock you out of their rooms lol.

  7. My baby starts preschool on Sept. 10. I am losing it. As much as I want some quiet time by myself and know that she needs to be in school and with other kids her age, I want her to stay my baby.

It feels just like yesterday that I gave birth and was nursing her. Now she wants to be so independent. UUUGGGHH!

And unlike your little guy, my daughter wears her heart on her sleeve and you know exactly how she is feeling. This is just one of the many reasons why we call her The Diva.

  8. Oh, I SO feel what you are going through. We have a little girl going this year too, and it is crushing us inside.

I plan on sitting in the seat next to her until forcibly removed from the school.

Oh I can’t imagine! I got all choked up last night reading to my 3yr old thinking that in just a month, I won’t be able to take her to story time anymore because she’ll be in preschool! LOL Time goes so fast!
