Who is your pick??

Every year, some friends of mine do a basketball pool for March Madness. For the last 5 years (at least!), I have made my picks based on a VERY Scientific and fail-proof method. No, my picks are not based on statistics, coaches, winning streaks or talent. My method is quite simple…….mascots.
For example, would a Blue Devil beat a Tiger? In my opinion, yes. Would a Bruin beat a Cardinal? You bet! Now, if two schools have evenly matched mascots like a Cougar versus a Wildcat, I have to default to which team has prettier colors.
My husband looks at all the predictions and makes educated selections based on team statistics. And you know what? I WIN EVERY SINGLE YEAR. EVERY. YEAR. <insert evil laugh here> I actually won the entire pool one year!
But, I hold a special place in my heart for one team. There is one team that I allow myself to break the mascot rule.
Gonzaga!
You know why? Simply, I love to say the word….
GONZAGA! Say it with me…….GONZAGA!
Fun, huh?
I literally know nothing about this school, but from the very first pool I took part in, I believed in them when no one else did. I had them winning more games than anyone thought possible and they did not fail me! Every year, I have them advancing a little further, and you know what? They are ranked #4 this year! Holy cow!
I totally should have bought a Gonzaga shirt. I’m bummed.
Did you go to Gonzaga? Is it near your home? I need to know more about the team I have adopted all these years!
Update: My husband just saw me writing this post and has declared war on my basketball pool. I told him I would write another post about how great he is and how much I suck if he actually wins this year. Don’t worry….it won’t happen.

Funny thing my sons choose by mascot too. We started a family/friend tourney and let our 4 and 2 year old boys do it as well. This year my husband actually thinks our 4 year old has a really good chance. Doble on the other hand has no chance. Hee chose teams that had an A in their logo. Luck has it that there are 4 teams in his final four with A’s. It is too cute. You see his name starts with an A an he LOVES the letter A.
I love the part where you state “don’t worry it won’t happen”!
Shot I’ve already filled out my brackets yet perhaps I can enter a second set under your “system”!
Thanks for sharing!

THANK YOU!
LOL I usually choose Gonzaga cause I love the word too!
GO GONZAGA~!!!!
Bridgette, this post totally cracked me up. You are so funny. I always suck at filling out the brackets. I do make sure to pick my favorite team and my alma mater -the UNC Tarheels.
I lived in Spokane twice — a place worth living in twice — and went to Gonzaga Law. If you’ll give me an address I’ll send you a Zags T-shirt that I fully expect will be good for your proud wearing the second weekend of the tournament and, hope against hope this year, the third.
LOL! I love the way you think! Too funny!
bridgette thats how i pick stuff too. Or cool names.
I lived outside the beltway of DC for 16 years, and Gonzaga High School was the sports powerhouse. So much so that they’d get a LOT of coverage on the nightly news. Yes, in the city that houses the federal government, you could be a center for Gonzaga High School and get as much press as an elected official.
I don’t know where the college is, but I’ll bet a player or two came from the High School.
Oh, and your pool picking method? I totally have to borrow that!
Bridgette I love your style. I never thought to pick them that way lol.

OMG! I love Gonzaga, and I don’t watch sports but I root for them every year! lol
Hmm…I might have to use this logic for my pool this year.
See! Now I can get behind that theory! I cannot watch basketball on TV; live fine but not on TV (same for hockey) so this is the worst month ever for me!
Your logic is about as good as mine, but add in the underdogs. DH was teaching at Bucknell when they made it to the tourney, so we put them through a couple rounds in our brackets and people we were playing with were like “WTF???” LOL. I’ll always root for the local teams if they make it.
