I love sharing kid movies with Charlotte that are inspirational in nature. Katy Perry: Part of Me is just that. Charlotte, as usual, was so excited to get a new DVD to watch. She had asked me to take her when this movie was still in the theater, but we just didn’t have the time when it was out. You can imagine her surprise when I busted it out and she got to watch it on the big screen in our living room.
What I didn’t consider was that I would enjoy it as much as Charlotte. Watching her story from a young girl and how she managed to go to 5 number 1 hits in one album was, well, amazing From her sets to costumes, music to personality, Katy has a way of making the ordinary be extraordinary and all while staying down to earth.
At only 7 years old, not all of Katys music is cut out for Charlotte’s ears, but for the most part the story was clean and Katy was likeable and loveable. There is no doubt a musical advertisement in it all, how could there not be? But her rise to fame, her personal heartache, and her willingness to display it all on film kept the movie heartfelt and likeable.
