Way back when I was in high school and college, I studied American Sign Language and French. While I did a decent job learning them, it took many many years to even grasp the most basic skills. But kids…kids can grasp nearly anything which is why, as a parent, helping them learn a new language can really help set them up for success while still allowing them to have fun during the process.
Language Learning App for Kids
I wanted to share this fantastic language learning app set with you that I was recently introduced to. The app, Stories by Gus on the Go, currently available in Spanish, while the original Gus on the Go is available in 28 different languages. Your kids can learn and with this app ripe with bright imagery, its easy to use with the basics of language to a full experience of education. Although designed with ages 3-7 in mind, my 11 year old also jumped on and said she found the app enjoyable and fun and felt accomplished when she started to learn.
From the Apple Store:
Take your child’s Spanish language learning to the next level by diving into their favorite stories such as the Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This app will you take you from single vocabulary words to basic grammar and short sentences. Perfect for kids ages 3-7. Stories is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Stories by Gus on the Go!
Gus, the language loving owl, travels through familiar and timeless stories that incorporate auditory pronunciation and written Spanish language. Start off with animations that teach vocabulary and build your way up to short sentences. Once your children have finished the interactive lesson and completed the story, they can play mini games that make learning fun and exciting.
With each story pack, your child will:
+ Meet new characters in short lessons based on the characters of classic stories
+ See their new friends come to life in an interactive story with dialogue to support the text
+ Tap the text to play individual words or highlight an object on the screen
+ Play fun games to help reinforce key vocabulary and keep learning lighthearted
+ Create their own passport to keep track of their progress.
Spanish for Preschoolers
Right now my son is not yet in public education. He is in preschool but much of his education, learning and yes, fun, falls into my lap on a daily basis. Sure, he does 3.5 hours in a classroom and those hours are very valuable, but what about the other 10 hours he is awake? Now that I have learned about Gus on the Go, we are going to fill some of those hours with nourishing his brain and hopefully teach him the very real skill of language.
I sat down with both of my kids today and we all practiced saying the words and connecting the story to the language itself.
Ready to take a little bit of Gus offline? The app has provided some awesome FREE PRINTABLES that keep your learning going when your eyes need an electronic break. You can grab a Fortune Teller Catchers, a Transportation wheel, or some number flashcards. And the best part is you can find them in MANY languages, including the Spanish we are using.
Ready to start teaching your kids Spanish (or another language) for FREE right now? Head over to the Apple store, download and get started on this new adventure today! Have you used Stories by Gus on the Go before and want to share your experience? Let me know!
