Lessons learned from today’s “snow-capades”

Snow is a foreign concept to most native New Orleanians.  I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen snow in my 34 years of life.  It snowed here in 1989 when I was sick and my Mom wouldn’t let me go outside.  It snowed in 2004 when I was VERY pregnant for Lily, so I only stayed outside for MAYBE 5 minutes.  And then, today.  So, I guess you could say I am a “snow-virgin.”

So, I thought I would share with you some lessons learned from today’s way-cool-totally-awesome snowfall in The Big Easy.

1.  Snow is wet.  You would think I would have realized that by playing in the snow at work, my socks would get soaking wet.  Did you know that snow goes through your shoes?!?

2.  Snow is cold.  See above.  Starting to think an extra pair of socks at work would be a good idea.

3.  What’s NOT a good idea:  Rolling down your car window when it is COVERED in snow.

4.  Using an umbrella when it’s snowing doesn’t really help.

5.  Even Katrina damage looks pretty when covered in white, powdery snow.

6.  Even though Lily has NEVER seen snow, she is one helluva snowball maker!

    Hysterical.
    Quick story…
About a dozen years ago I was a New York City gal (transplanted from Florida) on a biz trip in Denver. When I picked up my rental car I wondered what the weird plastic brush on the seat was. Figured the cleaning crew left it there. No worries. Threw it on the floor in the backseat. The next morning, I awoke to the most incredible, thick coat of snow on the ground…and on my little rent a car when ah-ha…it hit me. Someone has to get that snow off the car so that I can drive it. Guess that would be me and my weird plastic brush.

  4. LOL @ opening your car window while it was covered in snow!!

Love your lessons. I can’t imagine using an umbrella in the snow, lol. The photo of Lily is great, looks like she was having a blast!

  9. That is so cute. You had me crackin’ up. I guess snow is something you take for granted when you live in the midwest. It’s just a normal part of our winters.
