Let me tell you about the neighborhood thief
So a few weeks ago my DH tells me about one of our neighbors (the one with the dogs that never ever shut up) has had a bunch of lawn equipment stolen out of his shed. First of all, his shed is an eyesore, completely against the home owners rules, and brings down my property values because of how it looks. In fact, his entire back yard is about as redneck as it gets. But my point is that the shed is SO huge that anyone could see it, identify it, and steal crap out of it. It doesn’t even have a DOOR on the front.

So this guy blames the neighbor across the street. Apparently this neighbor had been coming over and ‘borrowing’ his lawn mower without asking and even took it to moms’ house without permission. So when the equipment was stolen, he finger pointed that guy.
Then a guy on the same street had a ton of work related equipment stolen out of his garage. He leaves his garage door cracked slightly for his cats to go in and out (my pet peeve, cats get killed when they roam around) and someone lifted up the garage and stole his stuff.
Then on the same street, over Christmas, one of the families went on vacation and came home to their house having been burglarized. Someone broke in and stole their bedspreads, toaster, pictures off the wall, vases, everything. Who the heck steals a bedspread, right? Gross.
Now its obvious the thief lives in the neighborhood, because who would come to the same street over and over. Then the neighbor with the lawn equipment sees over the fence of alleged thief and recognizes it as his. For whatever reason, he had the serial number written down from his lawn equipment (very smart). He called the police and the police raided this house this weekend (entire neighborhoods enjoyment) and foundĀ all the neighborhood stuff.
The best part? The alleged thief was using the one neighbors bedspread and toaster and had hung up the pictures in his house. HAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA. Who does that?
Now the guy whose home was burglarized while he was out of town, had happened to video tape his house before he left. His daughter lives out of town and they always bring video tapes of the house, etc so in the wildest twist, he had recent video tape of all the stuff IN HIS HOUSE and was able to prove that that stuff belonged to him.
The alleged thief across the street fled when he showed up and the cops were there and they didn’t chase him, but just put out a warrant for his arrest. He had a company truck in the driveway so they knew he would back. I guess they did get him eventually and he has already posted bail and him and his wife are walking around like nothing ever happened.
I dont have a house alarm and I dont want to pay $39 a month for the next 3 years, but its this kind of stuff that really scares me. I told DH that him and Charlotte need to stay away from that street (its just behind us) because I dont want the guy who is clearly going to jail in a few short months for theft, breaking out a gun.
The sad part, is that we don’t live in a crappy neighborhood. Sure, its Alabama, there are a lot of……..taxidermists and big trucks and camo, but the people are nice overall. Its just disheartening to see a neighborhood person ‘hitting’ the houses.

I’d be willing to bet that he was also wearing somebody’s stolen thong undies! Whatta creep!

I’m on the floor, lol. I can’t believe he stole a bedspread and used it. I live in a boring neighborhood, we just don’t get this kind of excitment.
I thought West Virginia was full of rednecks, but I think Alabama’s (bamas) have us beat.

Oh my GOSH!! That is crazy… seriously…. CRAZY!! The bedspread and pictures is just nuts. Maybe they had lunch together one day and the wife told her husband I sure do like Mrs. Smith’s bedspread and then he “surprised” her the next week with the same bedspread… literally!

Okay, I tried REEELY REEEELy hard to follow that story. SO, who was the burglar? Was it out-of-code-shed man? Or was it the guy who “borrowed” the lawn mower from out-of-code-shed man? Or was it someone all together different?
I feel your pain. We live in a nice neighborhood, but my daughter’s tricycle was stolen and my other daughter’s scooter. I want to scream, WHO STEALS A TODDLER”S TOY??? SICKO!!!
But, clearly, these people are sicker.

Wow! That is WILD! At least they caught the guy!
Now they just have to get him behind bars!
I second the “security” sign. Maybe you can get one from a friend who has 2. I know one of ours broke & then company sent another one.

That is scary. One thing that you can do is get a security sticker, and post it in your window, saying that this house is protected by _____. I’ve heard that that alone will help protect you almost as much as an actual security system. Thieves don’t even want to mess around with security systems, or the possibility of one.

how horrible! It is crazy that we can’t even feel safe in our own homes now days! And the audacity to steal the stuff and use it in his home…obviously this guy was unpopular enough to not have to worry about a neighbor stopping by for coffee or a beer! It is for reasons like this that I keep our doors locked even when we are home!!! (and we too live in a nice neighborhood, but anyone can drive up your driveway!) I miss the days of being able to be outside and waiting to hear my mom whistle for us (she has a hella wolf whistle that you could hear 3 streets over when we were growing up). There is no way I would let my kids just roam around even with their friends now days!

That is so scary. I live in a decent neighborhood too, but you never know who’s living next door. About a year ago, a couple was arrested nearby for performing medical procedures in their basement. How scary is that?
