Out with the old…in with the new!

Four years ago when my husband left the military and we essentially moved out on our own, we needed appliances. Fortunately the house we bought, which was a spec home, already had them all installed minus the fridge. Unfortunately they were not the same appliances that I would have chosen initially, but they were good for our price range and a nice color. I just went out and bought a fridge that matched them all and called it a day. Those appliances, minus the fridge, were all Maytag.

Over the years the dishwasher, oven/stove and microwave have really gotten their usage. I have found things that I have liked and things that I haven’t, so when Maytag offered me a Kitchen Suite Ambassador set and a chance to upgrade my basic models to something a little more modern, I jumped at the chance. Finally, appliances that are more ME! For over 100 years Maytag has provided top of the line appliances for a households every need and every price point. The day the good folks over at JB Hunt from Pensacola, Florida showed up was a very exciting day.

While the counters looked a little chaotic in prep for a food transfer, the men worked efficiently and hard to get it all done.

The first installation I had the stove, microwave and refrigerator installed. You can see the before with my black appliances and the after with my stainless appliances. As you can see one of the main difference with the fridge, aside from the color, is that there are three drawers in the new one where there are 2 in my old appliance.

In the microwave you can tell that I now have a handle on the door where before mine had broken off and of course the coloring.

I had an issue with how the electrical was done with my dishwasher, so we had to set that up at a later date to get done.

About a week later they installed that.

Maytag® Ice2O® French Door Refrigerator with Easy Access Refrigerator Drawer

Things I love:

What you can’t see is that the new Maytag Refrigerator appliance also has water and ice in the door, which makes everyone here very happy. It even measures how much water it is dispensing so you know how many ounces you have consumed. It does crushed and full ice and also has a lock if you have kids that will insist on using it when they are not supposed to. The fridge also has a middle drawer that is meant for more organization in our fridge and allow for a “snack” drawer to put easily accessible foods that your kids can grab and go without getting involved in everything else. While I had french doors and a bottom freezer in the last one, this one is a bit better for it. The doors are up higher so my 14 month old isn’t hitting himself on the head if they are open and the freezer has nice bins that pull out and help separate and organize the freezer. The last one was one big drawer.

What I don’t love:

I feel a little lost. My last fridge had some serious inside organization going on with a pull out drawer for fruit trays and vegi trays on top of climate controlled vegi drawers. I am not 100% sure where to put all the fresh vegis so I have been storing them in the middle easy access drawer. There is a little drawer inside the main part of the fridge but its not really that big for a whole drawer of vegis as far as height. Unfortunately the main middle drawer froze my lettuce so I know its not the right spot. Because the ice maker is in the door it takes out some of the space in the fridge itself. I also don’t like that there isn’t a specific spot for eggs. I have had to remove my door egg holders from my last fridge and put them in this one.  It needs an alarm that tells you when a door is left open.

Maytag® Electric Range with Triple-Choice™ and Speed Heat™ and Over-the-Range Microwave

What I love:

On the stove there are a wide selection of burners that allow for the adjustment of pan size, melt, warming, and quick heat…which makes ME very happy. I am still trying to figure out how high I need to go to cook foods when I turn the burners on. It’s actually a process to get to know a new stove but I can say that I feel like my chicken has been coming out less dry. I have NOT baked in the oven yet so I do not want to comment on that.

What I don’t love:

I cannot find a lock on the stove to prevent kids from opening it. My last stove had a lock (it was also a Maytag) where you could lock the door from being opened. My son has come up and grabbed and busted open the oven with sheer strength and I don’t want to risk him climbing in. I am on a hunt for how to lock the oven down now.

Regarding appearance my favorite change in the kitchen is the dishwasher. It looks really beautiful. That being said I just had it installed so I am going to refrain from commenting on it’s usability till the next post as I get to know my appliances better.

For now, you can visit Maytag, Follow them on Facebook, or tweet them on twitter to find out more about these and all other appliances. If you are gathering more opinions, don’t forget to follow the hashtag #MaytagMoms for the duration of the season!

  1. My oven only has the self cleaning lock and you can’t lock it inless it’s in that mode. I think all ovens should be able to lock when on with curious children.

    Your appliances are so pretty
