Mom 2.0 Summit: Social Media 101

dscf2002Back at it today! The groups have broken up and I hoped that this group would be the best for you all to learn! Ill blog as it goes on.

9:40  www.StartupPrincess.com She helps companies get thier business off the ground.

9:42 This is being run by @GwenBell. What are hashtags? They are pound signs combined with a keyword and it combines like minded posts in groups. (#mom2summit). Goes into a large list of everyone that uses that hashtag. You can go back and read the tweets from a specific group.

You can email twitter at support@twitter.com to autofollow those that follow you on twitter. This means you cant really control who you follow, so you will need to regularly screen to make sure that you are not being spammed and that you are following those that are relevant.

To change your twitter name, go to settings, then account, go to your USERNAME and change your name to something that is easily memorable. There is a debate on whether you should use your real name or brand name. There are is a trend where bloggers are using their twitter handle to sign their name.

10:02 Register your name on all major social networking sites. You can look online through Radian6 can help you find out where your mentioned on the site. Socialmention, Filtr Box, Collective Intellect.

10:11 Track and Monitor as a company to find out what is going on about your business on the web. Its smart to hire someone to find out what is going on on the web. If you dont have someone monitoring what is going on, if something happens over the weekend, you may not realize what is going with your business (a la Motrin moms).

10:13 www.TweetWorks.com You can make groups and message within the group to specific people.

10:14 Tweetie is great for the iPhone. You can add, direct, and search.

10:20 Retweetist

10:23 Be careful what you say on twitter, because it reflects your brand. You are your own star. Companies have been fired simply by saying something negative about the city of another company.

10:26 Other sites that you should be a part of: Kirtsy (do not go to Kirtsy today, it has a trojan), Tiny URL, Bit.ly (gives you stats on who clicks on your link)
