If you’re anything like me, your purse is full of those loyalty cards from retailers and coffee shops and gas stations. They’re the kinds of things you don’t need all the time, but don’t want to be missing when you’re out shopping and need them at a particular store.
I just pulled out my cute orange summer purse to check and see what I had in there. I love this purse because it’s bright and vibrant, and as long as I’m not wearing pink, pairs well with just about any outfit. Plus, it’s small, so it forces me to only carry the essentials. Apparently I think that 4 loyalty cards and two gift cards are “essentials.”
The sad part, of course, is that these aren’t my essentials. They’re just the ones I happened to have in my purse this week. I took my niece out shopping for back-to-school shoes, so of course I had to make sure I had my Famous Footwear gift card and rewards card. Who wants to miss out on rewards points, right?
I hate keeping the little keychain rewards card on my actual key chain, so those usually wind up stuffed in the zipper compartment with my lip balm. My Cub card is probably the only actual “essential” card out of the mix. Cub Foods is our local grocery store, and they give you gas discounts at one of our major gas station chains based on the dollars you spend. Given the amount of grocery shopping I do, that one is a no brainer to make sure it makes it from purse to purse when I switch up accessories.
The point is, carrying all these cards around takes up precious space in an already small purse. Normally I’m out running errands on my lunch break at work or skipping out of the office early so I can run to the store before I pick up my son Levi for daycare. It never fails that I get to the counter to check out and realize I’m missing a coupon I clipped or a loyalty card that stashed in another purse somewhere.
So when Clutch Shopping, a new free app available for download, asked me to check it out and share my thoughts with you, I was all for it! It’s an all-in-one shopping app that acts as a mobile wallet when you’re on the go. Hands down, my favorite feature is the loyalty section – you can save and store all of your rewards cards in one convenient location on your smart phone. It even allows you to scan and save coupons!
It’s super easy to use, too.
I have it downloaded on both my iPad and my Android phone, and each time I need it, I just tap to open the app and access all the cards that would normally be taking up room in my purse.
Since Famous Footwear was the last place I shopped this weekend, that was the first card I loaded into the app.
Most loyalty cards these days come with a barcode on the back the cashier scans at the register. The Clutch loyalty app uses your device’s camera to scan the barcode on the back of your card and save the information into the app so you have it handy the next time you’re out shopping. All you have to do is center the barcode in the viewfinder and hold still.
If it’s a popular store, you can start typing the name and select it from the results in the drop down menu. If it’s not on the list, it’s easy to add the store name manually, too.
The mobile wallet allows you to store loyalty cards, gift cards, coupons, and credit card information, too. One of the features I particularly liked was that if I had two items for the same store (such as a loyalty card and a gift card), they are stored once with multiple icons (in this case, I have a Famous Footwear rewards card saved as well as a gift card.)
I think that just in the sheer amount of time I’ll save from fumbling through my purse looking for the right card for the store I’m shopping out, this will be a HUGE time saver. All I’ll have to do is grab my phone and pull up what I need when I’m at the register. I’m sure the folks in line behind me will be happy, and my bank account will benefit, too, since I’ll actually have all the coupons I want to use with me for a change.
The Clutch Mobile Shopping App is available for free app download in the Apple iTunes Store & the Google Play Store for Android. The app has lots of other features I’m still exploring, like the “shop and compare” price tool, gift wishlists, window shopping, and much more you. You can learn more about them if you ”like” their Facebook page, and you’ll also be able to keep up with all of the latest app updates, announcements, and features.
