A few months back when Monsters U was in the theaters still, Charlotte and I had a “mommy/daughter” date and went to see it.
I have to say that it is probably one of the best sequels ever written for any movie I have ever seen so when I was offered a preview of the movie to share, I absolutely said YES! Monsters U had the same bright colors, beautiful animation, and design that the first movie had with the story flawlessly woven into the original script. From finding out how Sulley and Mike met, getting a preview of Roz, and understanding why exactly Randall is the “bad guy”, the 2nd movie is really a sneak peek look into the past. And it’s not often that a kids movie can give me such a nostalgic look back at college. The opening scene alone makes you forget you are watching an animation rather than walking through a real college campus.
I also got a real kick out of the one liner that let us know why the Abominable Snowman was banished.
ABOUT MONSTERS U
Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right. “Monsters University” bravely explores themes of self-discovery and the revelations that come with growing up.
Personally as a parent I loved the final lesson of the movie. Without giving it away, it was a carefully placed one about doing the right thing and working hard.
Our whole family spent a night curled up to watch it (Phoenyx and Chris for the first time) and we have all since watched it a good 5 more times in the past 2 weeks.
Now you can pick up this GREAT title (perfect for a stocking stuffer, but personally I’d get it now) at retailers starting October 29th in a BluRay combo pack!
