My political Views
Since its coming up a bit and I feel Im being eaten at for not being ‘fair and balanced’, I thought I would out all my political views for everyone.
1) Political: I consider myself a republican (although voted for Clinton way back when). The older I get, the more conservative with money I get. I grew up, went to college, am paying off that debt, and work weekly to make money to pay for my life. I want to KEEP it.
2) Abortion: I am Pro-Choice. Shocked? Dont be. I believe in a womans right to choose and no, my opinion hasn’t changed since having a child.
3) Gay Rights: I believe just like a woman’s right to choose, people should be able to love who they want and be recognized for it. All people who are Americans should have equal rights.
4) Health Care Reform: Crap. Crap. Crap. I know, lets spend MORE MONEY to fuck MORE people this year. WONDERFUL! Im totally on board….NOT.
5) Mainstream Media- They suck. They are either all liberal or all conservative and I stopped believing in the news so much that I limit myself to my husband recapping it at the end of the day. I do not watch the news or read news stories online unless someone sends me a “have to read” link. The MSM trashes bloggers so we don’t take their jobs.
6) Celebrities: Who cares.
7) FTC and bloggers: Cant our government use these guys in screwing up the health care reform more? I just think its a way to throw more socialism into our society and control people.
8 ) Smoking: Its gross.
9) Octomom: I dont care. File under celebrities.
10) Dooce: I wish she would seriously stop being interviewed for blogosphere stuff. A woman that has a book on the NY Times Bestsellers list and closes her blog comments should have more self respect then to represent a group she doesn’t belong to.
11) Social Media: I think its killed the mother and made people socially inept in a lot of ways.
12) Twitter: Spammy
13) Facebook: No, I dont want to plant a seed or throw my panties at you. Possibly the worst waste of time since solitaire was invented.
14) Social Security: I should be able to OPT OUT of a program that I will see no benefits for, that takes hundreds of dollars out of my pocket per year that I could be saving for my retirement. I would rather be putting my own money away then paying for someone else and having my kids pay for me. How about here is a plan: Let us pay for OURSELVES. Let me opt of paying and in turn, ill opt out of ever receiving benefits. Brilliant.
15) Oprah: I cant deny her impact and how positive she has been for so many people around the world. I dont watch her show, but I like her. But does she seriously have to put HER face on EVERY “O” Magazine? Just sayin…..
16) Religion: I am a regular Christian that believes in Jesus and God, but do not believe in any set man made rules in order to get to heaven. I also don’t believe there is any interpretation of the bible that is correct, nor do I even know if the bible is correct period. I do know that life is what you make it, that I couldn’t look at my daughter and know that something incredible allowed her to exist, and I believe most people have a loving spirit.
Did I miss anything?

Great post! I agree with a lot of what you said however I do facebook (no plant seeds or panties) and twitter (haven’t really gotten the hang of it…starting to wonder if there IS a hang of it), and I truly believe we NEED HEALTH CARE REFORM. But I don’t want more government… you can read more about my thoughts on that at http://www.getbettertogether.net in the morning blend section. Thanks for your insight!
@ Teresha:
see, we do get along! LOL
Nice list. Good to get to know you! It’s funny. we have much more in common than meets the eye
wink wink…
1) Political: I am registered Democrat, but have voted for Republicans. The party labels mean less to me than the individual candidates’ platforms. I believe in short-term social programs and don’t mind paying more taxes if it means better schools and better pay for teachers. One BFF is a Republican (we spar all the time).
2) Abortion: I am Pro-Choice too
3) Gay Rights: I am for them having the right to get married and “all that jazz” (direct quote from Rick, our gay neighbor back in ATL)
4) Health Care Reform: Neither side gets it right. It’s sorely needed, not sure what the solution is…this one stumps me.
5) Mainstream Media-majored in journalism in college. saw firsthand that it lost its objectivity (became an education advocate instead). don’t watch the news either. Prefer Stewart and Colbert. At least they make it humorous.
6) Celebrities: I am addicted to celebrity news and gossip. well, real celebrities…not reality “stars”
7) FTC and bloggers: not versed enough on this to express an opinion
8 ) Smoking: It’s THE grossest habit since spitting in public
9) Octomom: Talk about someone who gets undeserved attention. ugh!
10) Dooce: Never heard of her until I read about her on MomDot
11) Social Media: it has its good and its bad like any new medium.
12) Twitter: I don’t have an account because I see it as pointless
13) Facebook: I was one of the last people among my friends to get an account. Now I use it to catch up with people from high school, including my favorite English teacher, Ms. Link.
14) Social Security: brilliant idea. instead of privatizing it, people should be given the option to participate or not. I like this concept.
15) Oprah: I’m just not a fan of her show or magazine, which is probably blasphemy for a black woman to say/put in print (my other BFF would kill me…she is a diehard Oprah devotee). Yes, she has done incredible charity work and I applaud her for that. I just can’t get into the show (which is why I missed the DOOCE interview).
16) Religion: I am more spiritual than religious. I believe in God and Jesus, but have had issues with “church”, especially when they use the pulpit to express politics disguised as morality issues. I also respect others’ for their faith beliefs and have engaged myself in discussions with Muslims, Jews, Scientologists, etc…just so that I can better understand them and their culture.
Well said. It takes a lot of courage these days to come out and speak about your Republican ideology. Thank you for sharing this with us. I know it is a very personal thing for you, but America needs more vocal opposition now more than ever. Take care, friend.
