I have a bone to pick with stupid parents

What kind of idiot would not put their kid in a car seat or seat belt? I mean seriously this girls was no older than 3 or 4 and wasn’t in a car seat or buckled somehow.

Now we live in a REALLY high traffic area in Florida and I see this all the time.  I just don’t get why parents don’t have their kids safe & buckled…and yes there was a seat in the back she just wasn’t in it. And please excuse the cell phone shot…I had to do it. I just had to.

That’s when you just want to stop them in the middle of the street and smack them up-side their stupid heads and show them how to properly restrain a child in a car.

Utah has a program called Buckle up for love where you can report drivers using their license plate number-the cops arent involved. The buckle up for love then sends the drive a notice that they were found driving with their child unretrained and some infomation materials on seatbelt safety.

I saw this on the news and was a little shocked to find that some of the drivers who received the observation notice-weren’t even driving their kids at the time-but their nanny was. So you never really know if it’s their mom making unsafe choices. I think you should contact your state’s safety council and see if you can’t get a similar program started in your state. I will be looking into this in my own. This could prevent many injuries in children from the lack of seatbelt wear. Any little bit we can do to help.

I hope it wasn’t a case of the child unlatching her own seat belt.
The very first time my son did that I pulled over in the nearest parking lot and bawled him out! I was kind of ashamed at the way I handled it but it was a mixture of mommy fear and anger.
You know, the “mad because you scared me” feeling?

See and the sad part is that her Grandma was in the back seat with her. So I know that she didn’t unbuckle herself.

Thank goodness somebody else shares my pet peeve. I live in Miami, Fl. and can not even begin to explain how much it absolutely ticks me off to see these ignorant morons driving their children around on a daily basis without so much as a seat belt!!!! I did serious research before buying car seats for my children to make sure they were in the safest seat possible. Under no circumstances are they ever not buckled in the car seat….I will not even sit down in my seat until I buckle them in first! My son is five years old and is in a Britax car seat that holds up to 70 pounds and I am in the process of buying him a booster seat with side impact since he’s already five. As far as I’ve learned from researching, it’s the law that in Florida a child under 100 lbs and under 4’9 must be in a car seat. Forget the law, IT PROTECTS YOUR CHILDS LIFE!!!!! Every day when I drop my son off at pre-K, most parents do NOT have their child in any car seat, or seat belt and their kids hop around in the car like it’a a party. I honestly feel like grabbing their parents by the neck and asking them if they have any type of education or at least some common sense.
Any how, I am very passionate about this subject because I am a huge believer in car seats and child safety, period. So I’m so glad you blogged about that and maybe the pic of the ignorant lady will actually get back to her. Maybe the simple fact of getting caught will make her restrain her child.

  6. Not to mention that she is on the phone as well. These type of people need the cops to be driving by them.

  7. Denise says:

That ticks me off, I could never allow my son to just be however he wants in a car. The other thing is that she is talking on her phone. I am convinced some people SHOULD NOT be parents!

  8. That infuriates me too. I just don’t understand how you cannot keep your child safe. Was talking on the phone so much more important than her daughter’s safety?

  9. bloggymommy3 says:

I see that all the time and it drives me crazy. I just want to scream at them, “BUCKLE YOUR KIDS!!!” It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that keeping your kids buckled keeps them safe. DUH! Oh and she’s on the phone…go figure! Where’s her Mom of the Year award?

I’m not sure of the laws in FL. But I know for a fact that both of my girls are still in 5 pt harnessed seats. Kaylee is rear facing (for the shear fact she’s just barely 20lbs) and Reagan is forward facing in a 5 pt seat.

For me, I would NEVER jeopardize my child’s safety no matter what.

I do regret not getting the license plate. Seeing stuff like that really makes my stomach turn.

In my state, CA, your child must be at least 60 lbs. AND 3’9″ before they don’t need to be in some sort of child restraint seat. And Mama didn’t notice this because she was on the phone, also another no no in my state (you must be hands free here).

I really hope you got her license plate number, Alicia, and turned her in. I would have. If there had been an accident, that child would have gone flying and most likely been horribly injured and possibly killed. STUPID PARENTS!

This kind of stuff drives me insane too!

  12. No seat belt for her daughter AND talking on the phone. Nice!

It is against the law in my state not to wear a seatbelt for everybody and to not have your child in a carseat/booster seat until they a certain weight.

  13. Yasmine says:

wow that is really stupid of that momma-
arent kids aged 3-4 supposed to be in booster seats too?
