Today we ran out to the beach…that oil spill is heading our direction and we were curious to see if the beach is putting anything into place. It was just last year I did a post on seeing all the oil rigs on the beaches when you are out there.
Ironic.
However it looks like Alabama is doing it’s best to react and get some safety measures into play.
And just in case…here are some “before the oil spill hits the Alabama Coastline” pictures…we are going to head out again next week and do an update.
Hopefully it will be positive.
Btw, that foam in this picture….its this weird sea foam that washes up.
When you step on it, it just dissipates like bubbles. I don’t know what its from, but its kinda gross.
Sea puke.
I am a little frustrated that summer has just arrived and we were looking forward to all the great beach days on the Gulf. Now, before it has even started, it’s potentially over.
Right now I’m praying for all the businesses and wildlife that will be affected and hoping that it’s ultimately minimal.
Of course today the beach started to cloud up as soon as we got out there…almost like it knew what was coming.
We scattered home before the storm hit.
I’ll update with more pictures if we see any impact.

Trisha,
Thank you so much for getting the pictures. We come down to the Beach Club on Fort Morgan Rd. for Feb and March. This will be our third year and we are absolutely sick about this spill. We love the area and are so excited to spend those months there. The area is absoutely beautiful and the people are so kind and wonderful. Please keep the pictures coming as you are the only one that I could find that was actually taking pictures of the beaches. The only thing that will keep us from coming back 2011 (our reservation is already made) would be if the smell is awful. PLEASE, PLEASE keep us posted. Your area will be in our prayers.
Thank you
Praying for all that the fix gets into place before Thursday and that they start pumping the water sooner too.
We are trying to book a family vacation for the last week in June for Orange Beach, AL. Do you know what everyone is saying about that area and if it will be getting worse for the summer? Will the beaches be covered in oil? Thanks.
The next 4-6 weeks will be critical; will just have to watch the news to see if they are able to contain the spill and cleanup before it hits shore and then once it does….
I’m so sad. I hope it’s not going to be very bad. I’ll keep watching as a friend lives there and we were planning a fun girl trip. Now that might not happen:-(
This oil spill doesn’t just affect the animals and wildlife, although we’ll do what can be done to save them, it also affects the people. Millions of people go every year down to the Gulf for vacation and the 4 states involved so far, their economy by the ocean is going to be seriously affected in a very negative way. Shops that already had to close down, family businesses, due to the recession will stay closed but even more will close now. After all, what is the chance that someone is going to bring their kids down to play at an oil covered beach? Unfortunately, this is a lot bigger than the news makes it seem. It isn’t just the fish or fishermen that are affected. Families as a whole are. Keep your prayers going people and keep your hands willing to help.
Yes, you are very right. I grew up on Pensacola Beach and lived in gulf breeze almost my entire life. I now live in Mobile, but either direction, its still affected. I was telling my DH (also a GB native) that this is going to be worse then a hurricane.
Sigh.
Well, darn. I am finally to the point of life that we can enjoy our place on the island, AND I have a renter! A freak accident and a monumental occurance will wreak havoc on summer…… sigh…. We have connections to one of the workers that was killed. Sabotage? I don’t think so. All of our prayers should be for the folks that make their living off the water. We know charter folks, bait guys, oystermen, shrimpers, real estate folks, if things get as bad as they say, it “ain’t” gonna be fun. I still love the gulf and will do what I can to help.
glad to see this post, I will be watching for updates and pics..my husband was deployed there to assist. thanks!
This is so, so sad. I hope that the damage in your area is minimal as well!
It makes me so sad that the animals will suffer because of some idiot’s mistake. I’m sick of seeing this happen over and over again.
Well animals dying is not something I like to see either, but the most important thing to remember is the human lives that where lost. The families left behind to cope with the heartache of never seeing their loved ones here on earth. That is what we need to remember most of all.
I am glad to see some pre-photos… this mess, I fear will last longer than a summer. Look how long the effect of the Exxon Valdeze did in Alaska! You would think the oil industries would have a lot more in place for emergencies like this. Not only will it effect wildlife, but all the communities along the whole gulf side! A massive mess. I for one, find it strangely related that right after the present administration okays new off shore drilling, this one blows up? a coincidence?? I think not… I think sabotage.. and many lives lost and the numbers will climb. very sad…
I was wondering the same thing Candace! The pro-drilling the admin decided to take days before this tragic event, no one could figure out why they changed their view on the subject. Now magically ALL off shore new drilling is halted, maybe for years. AND the face no one can figure out why it happened, how to stop it, why there is so much. Either way, it’s a huge set back to our getting off others energy, and the wildlife once again suffers for mans stupidity.
Great pics Trish!
Wonder why this happens so often. Who the hell is not paying attention. Thanks for sharing Trisha your picture are very nice
This quite literally pisses me off.
I was thinking of taking the kids to the beach tomorrow to check it out before anything (hopefully nothing?) happens here. Sigh.
It’s terrible to think about the wildlife that are going to suffer. Hopefully things will not get too bad.
Good luck to your state, Trisha. I hope it does not spoil your summer.
I feel bad for the wildlife! makes you wonder though, people were saying gas was supposed to go up this summer. Related? Possibly.
