We had our real estate sign Blessed by a Priest

I’m sure that got your attention.

My brother in law is a priest. Have I ever mentioned that before? Before you lecture me on it ironic statement of “priest” and”brother in law” in the same sentence, I know that. Actually, 1 in 3 Catholic priests are married.

Moving on.

So while at Charlotte’s party, I remembered I had picked up a Saint Josephs doll from Marie Laveaus voodoo house when we were in New Orleans. Saint Joseph, among other things, is the Patron Saint of Real Estate. There is an old wives tale that says if you bury a St. Josephs doll under your real estate sign when you sell your house, upside down, it will sell.

Considering our house has been on the market for like 9 months, I’m willing to try anything. This mama is ready to get back to Florida!

I thought it would be funny to have my dad, who is my Realtor, bury it for us as some sort of symbol. Then my brother in law spoke up and said,

“You know, I could bless that for you first”

BRILLIANCE.

We are trying to convince my dad to keep a shelf of them in his office as a promo.

“We come with a Saint Josephs Guarantee and our own Priest!”

What….that could work!

It’s all pretty funny, but I am shocked that a priest took part in something from a voodoo shop! Wow! lol
Why would a voodoo shop sell a saint statue? That is also weird. And why were you in a voodoo shop? lol

  2. This video was freakin’ hysterical (loved the screaming child in the background)… your BIL is wonderful to help you out, especially since you got your St. Joseph at a VOODOO shop!!
I had no idea that a Catholic priest could marry, but I’m not Catholic, however, my hubby was raised Catholic and he had never heard of it either.
Best wishes on your sale, let us know how it goes…. we need to sell ours, too!

  3. Haha watch it is going to sell now!

That is interesting he is a priest! He is Roman Catholic? I know a lot of Eastern Catholic Churches, mostly in other countries get married. I thought in the US the pope actually takes it as a case-by-case basis. So men who were married before they were priests… then feel a calling… could possibly become Catholic priests.

There is a big debate on this because there is a need for Catholic priests.. but then some say you can’t be fully devoted because of the responsibilities of wife/family. Who knows!

Good luck in selling the house!

That is so freakin’ funny. Love it! Your BIL is awesome!

Average market time in my area is 1 year. A few reasons why a house does not sell #1 Overpriced #2 bad marketing-google your addesss and see where it comes up #3 bad REALTOR….good luck!

well, we are not overpriced at all. Not even close. In fact, we will take about a $3K hit if we sell. And our realtor, whom is also a broker, was #1 in his county and his team was number #3 and #5, who both happen to be my uncle and brother. They also rank top in the state. So thats not a problem. No starving Realtors here!~ But we do live in a market that is heavily induced by new home purchases and its not a growing economy like it was when we moved in. Our last home sold in 3 weeks…but its a lot different in this area we are in.

  6. I totally think your brother in law is awesome for doing that. I can’t wait to hear about how quickly St. Joseph helps you sell!

  7. DogsMom says:

There is a part 2 to this process. Once you have accepted the offer, you must dig him up and clean him up. Give him an honored place to reside in your new home or the sale may fall through, or other complications arise.

I just read you have to face him towards your home. Facing him towards the street keeps buyers away.

This is a “tradition” (superstition?) with flexible rules.

  8. It worked for us when we had to sell my grandmother’s house. We had no interest then put the statue out and it sold in a week. Coincidence? I think not!

    Best of luck!

  9. sarah says:

good luck selling. hope it works for you

  10. Alicia says:

Lol, I think this will be the key.

  11. We did that and our house sold in 3 weeks : ) Just the St. Joseph statue thing, not the whole priest coming out to the house.

  12. KateTSM says:

    Here’s hoping it works!

  13. tara says:

That is hilarious! Can’t wait to hear if it works!

  14. Amanda says:

In this market, whatever works! We couldn’t even rent our house out for what the mortgage is each month because the area its in is becoming so depressed.

  15. Sharon says:

That is awesome, I hope it works for you guys!

  16. jen says:

LOL! well good luck! I will be waiting for the update! AND LMAO @ your hubby he is so funny!

  17. Linda says:

Definitely let us know if it works!!!

  18. Lisa p says:

  19. Cheryl says:

I agree with Kim, bigger is always better right? I *USED* to be a catholic, is it wrong that I find this hilariously funny?! I’m not saying anything about religion, I just thought it was so funny your BIL offered to bless it for you!

  20. I think that you need a bigger St. Joseph. Size matters.
