I didnt want to buy a potty because ill probably have to wean them off the potty onto the real toilet anyways, so i bought a soft Dora toilet seat. My son wont sit on it, so i decided to start with one first.My daughter has done both on the toilet a few times, but i dont think she knows whats shes doing yet. I thought about getting her dora underwears, tell her she has to keep dora clean and dry but she still doesnt understand. I have attempted potty training my 34 month old boy a couple of times to no avail. I really would like him out of diapers by 3, but I know that's not my decision. ;) Thanks for the great tips. All my kids did not initiate. I was always amazed to hear other moms talk about how their kids wanted to PT & were younger than 3. It was a long battle of wills with each child. I agree with the others who say skip pull ups and go straight to underwear. If you have to go out, put a pull up over the underwear to minimize leakage at Target :) Good luck. He was in underwear for everything except bed time (when we use Pull-ups) by 24 months. My tip is to put them on the potty if they are dry when they wake up from nap or sleeping. They will most likely pee a few minutes after they wake up - and you have instant, easy success that they understand. It sets them up for potty success! And I think its a myth that boys are harder to PT. My son took an extreme interest in PTing when he was 19 months old. I think our biggest problem was not letting him do it on his own time. Our family kept pushing and pushing from age 1 and up. I knew you couldn't force a kid to do this but since he was my first I listened to them. It turned out to be an awful struggle. So this time we'll take it slow with our daughter and wait until she shows us she's ready. My son was a stinker and he didn’t fully potty train until 3.
