Practicing what I preach

Dear Internet,

Over the years, you have met all the animals that have fallen into my life in one way or the other. And we have loved, loved, loved them and more importantly been responsible with their care and our commitment to them, no matter how they happened into our home.

Here are our furbabies over the years…

Mei Sei Mae

Paprika

Sebastian

Gutter Kitty

Little Kitty

Gwennie

Buster

Captain

Jedi

baby kitties Stella, Sumo, and Athena

and of course, Napoleon.

Last week when we lost Napoleon, there was a hole in my heart and a spot in our home to save an animal, so we went to the shelter to adopt.

This was Gwennies reaction:

We want you to meet our new baby, Josephine, Josie for short.

Get it? Napoleons wife? Brush up on your history and this will make more sense.

Whom was really happy to be here until she met the dog….

and wasn’t a fan…

but promptly got back to the important things when he left…like warming my computer desk….

and looking cute…

And this Friday I am starting volunteer work at the shelter weekly where I will be taking pictures of all the animals for their website in hopes that it helps more adopters come out before the animals are euthanized. Better pictures mean more people realize that these are not just kittens and cats, puppies and dogs that are behind dirty cages and flea coats…but are living, breathing and loving animals that are ready to be family members.

Like Josie.

I might not be able to save every animal in the world, but for one animal, I hope to make a world of difference.

  1. She is so beautiful… I am glad you found someone to fill the hole in your home and heart.
I am sure she will get used to Jedi. =)

  2. Josie is beautiful! Congrats on your new family member! I am so sorry you lost Napoleon. You amaze me with your passion! I hope you get lots of people to come out and adopt!!

  3. Beautiful animals and you have made a difference in each of their lives. I love that you will be helping to find homes for others in need as well. I’ve wanted to do something like that. With moving, maybe I should see what I can do.

  4. Josie is beautiful! Love the name. Hope her and the dog eventually work out their relationship. LOL

  5. Awww she is cute. We always adopt but our limit is 2 at a time. My cats have all done the same thing with meeting the other cat though!

  6. Congratulations to your family!!!! Josie is so pretty!

Oh way to go on the volunteering! I hope you can help them in so many ways with getting the word out online!

  7. Awww she’s adorable! I love that youre volunteering at the shelter, our new addition was either coming to us or to a shelter :) so happy to have her home!

  8. Sooo sweet and good of you!! Those pictures are too precious for words!

  9. Got the allusion! ;)

You take such BEAUTIFUL photos of animals and I love that you are using this talent to help.

  10. I love this, and you are awesome for doing that to help those animals find homes!

  11. Photos help a lot! I know you take excellent pics …. black dogs in [articular have a hard time finding homes and most dark cats too just don’t photograph well. Congrats on the new kitty!

  12. You are just awesome. Even though I think cats are pure evil (and that has nothing to do with my allergies), I must admit your cats are incredibly cute. Your dogs are even cuter. Too awesome that you’re volunteering at a shelter, though it sounds like your house is quickly becoming one as well.

    • yes, it is! But in all fairness, mei sei may passed, napolean is passed, sebastian passed (all from diseases we had no control over)..buster was a stray that Charlotte brought home and we found him a home, Captain died about a month after we adopted him (distemper), and gutter kitty was also a stray but we found a home for him. The three kittens we rescued found a home w/ Lynsey after I suckered her into keeping one…she kept them all. LOL! My house currently has gwen, little kitty, paprika, josie, and jedi.

  13. She’s beautiful!! What a house full of love you have!

  14. Victoria says:

that is AWESOME trisha! good photos of animals make them SO much more ‘adoptable’ to people!!!!

  15. Aweeeeeeeeeeee…. too cute! Welcome Josephine and congrats to the animals you’ll be helping to save.

  16. I love what you’re doing. It kills me that we can’t have pets because of my daughter’s allergies. I shall live vicariously through your amazing photographs! Congrats on Josie :)

  17. Oh she is just beautiful and you are even more so for volunteering your services to the animals in need!

  18. You just brought little tears to my eyes. What a sweet baby she is. I’m sure she’ll be as loved as the rest of the kitties maybe not so much by Jedi though lol

  19. I totally got the Josephine reference :) She is a sweetie & lucky to be part of your family! I used to volunteer at the no-kill shelter here in Denver before Violet was born. Now that she is a little bit older I want to get back to it again.

  20. I cant wait to meet Josie! She’s beautiful. So wonderful to see our three furbabies up there – they have gotten so big. I miss that size. They have brought us so much joy. I LOL’d about the dog – our fur babies STILL do that with ours.
